Question From Front Page to PHP-mySQL

I am looking for recommendations. A brief history would be that I started building my own websites two years ago using Front Page. At the time, for a rapidly calcifying brain, it seemed to make sense because it was quick and easy and I did not have to learn a completely new discipline at a later stage in life. Of course, the theory was terribly flawed simply because Front Page really has little value in a properly constructed and choreographed website.

In the past couple of months I have started to turn my attention to properly learning PHP, mySQL and CSS and although there are a number of seemingly good sites and articles online, I think I would get this done much more efficiently if I had a properly structured textbook that is designed for the very beginner that will walk me through each stage of development from CSS to PHP and how they interact with a db as well as detailed instructions on how to institute such information within the framework of html or xhtml and so forth.

Rather than going out to purchase a library full of superfluous and useless material, I thought I would ask the people who I have come to regard as knowledgeable in this field.

What book or books would you recommend?

I thank you
Silverback

I wouldn't recommend any books, but for well structured course material, I have always found W3Schools Online Web Tutorials to be most useful.
