Default I Need to set up a Network Now - Cam and Printer do not work with Vista

I have never set up a network before. But now I find I have to for the first time.

My Cam and my Printer are both unusable with Vista. But I have an idea for a solution. I put my old computer on a network. I know that this is hwo they use printers at work. I assume I can do the same at home. Can I do the same sort of thing with my cam?

For the printer, here are my results from the printer's manufacturer:

I am sure I can set up the printer via a network but I do not know how to go about doing this. How does one set up a network?

For the cam, here my results from looking for answers from the cam's manufacturer

I found a program that allows me to use the cam over a network. This webcamXP :: the powerful webcam software for Windows is way cool.

Now the first thing to do is to set up a network. The Vista Online Help had a lot of information I did not need because already I have two machines connected to the internet by way of a router. It seems difficult to go through this information and know what I do need to do and what I do not need to do. So here I am. I have found out what the IP address is for the two machines and they are both connected to the same internet connection by way of a router. Now what? How do I make them see each other?

Some routers are set up for printer sharing, some aren't. Newer ones tend to be easier in this regard. I don't know about your webcam. So the bottom line is if you haven't bought the router yet, do the homework and make sure it allows you to network your printer.

Whilst setting up a network for what you want is straight forward, if you want to print you'll need to have your other PC switched on. Also I don't see how the webcam would work unless if your other PC was directly next to your vista one - is this what you plan on doing?

But to be honest I think it'll be easier and probably cheaper on your part to go out and buy a new web cam and printer - they really don't cost that much these days.

If you need all this to install a camera and a printer i'd consider uninstalling Vista and switching to XP where everything works fine.

I'm certain that the Vista machine will still require the appropriate drivers regardless of which machine on your network is connected to the printer/camera... and this, I believe, is where you came in.

For network, you have to setup using the Network Wizard and define the Workgroup. Both needs to be the same to recognise. Next you will require to share printer in network for the default (the printer that connects to the PC). Once that is done, you will be able to use the other PC for printing.

As for Webcam, it can be done using IP Address. Depending on the webcam that you have, normally there will be instruction for you to setup using IP Address. Read up and follow exactly what the instruction given.
