It says later in the Q&A section of the article. Initial cost for the drive will be $3,000 and each 600GB disc will cost $30-50. That's extreme early-adopter prices, those will come down over time.

Wonder what data is so large that it requires that kind of storage? You could probably fit large chunks of the internet on it....

Encyclopedia with multimedia? But more realistic is the next generation of high definition. Japan has already said it will start rolling out the next level of high definition about 2015. Have a look at 33 megapixel Super Hi-Vision (Ultra HDTV) could be on the air in 2015 - Engadget with 33 megapixel (7,680 x 4,320) resolution and 22.2 channel surround sound.
