Default Registering domains in other countries

As my company is growing and is starting to do more and more business in EMEA, Asia, South America and Australia, we started a discussion on purchasing the company's main domain name for each country's domain.

Can anyone offer an suggestions or give any best practices on how we should do this, or if we should do this? We're a growing company that is getting pretty well known and already have at least one squatter on the .info version of our domain name.

I would personally suggest leaving it on your main domain and creating folders for each language. Just look at what some of the major hitters are doing:
  1. Amazon in French: Amazon.fr : livres, DVD, jeux video, CD, lecteurs MP3, ordinateurs, appareils photo, logiciels et plus encore !
  2. Dell in Russian
  3. HP in Russian
This will better allow you to focus your linking strategy on the main domain instead of having to setup a separate campaign for every new language.

I would suggest getting the TLD for each country if you want to have success in the search engines.
