Default Internet Service Providers - good / Bad

All,
I have been with a few ISP, including ipowerweb, lunarpages and United Hosting. The first lost me an unimportant domain name [ it was my first ever web site], and as it was my first ever domain, I would never use this company again. This was due to the incompetence of their sales division, who proved themselves complete a'holes.
Lunarpages is a very reasonably costed provider, with good support levels, it is not perfect; but is excellent value. The support staff have helped me every step of the way in making this an effortless solution, at all times.
Recently, I transferred a domain name from lunarpages to a new, more expensive UK hosting site, a lot more expensive. Overall satisfaction from the move was zero, as I lost a lot of the services that were previously available. I do enjoy being able to use ssh to download backup files, rather than using ftp, which is the pits - but a backup through their conventional method failed.
Anyway, on to transferring a domain name, just a parked domain name, thankfully. What a nightmare. This new hosting company could not be more unhelpful as they are obviously scared of losing business. Several weeeks on, and domain name allegedly transferred, it is now suffering from problems with Tucows as being an unrecognised name! I do not know who to blame, but as United Hosting would not even supply me with details of the transfer company, I have my suspicions.

In short, I am not impressed with United Hosting, an UK ISP; and the service I have had from lunarpages is excellent - especially for the nominal costs. Ipowerweb is a complete scumbag operation with no customer care - I think I can back this up with a lot more comment if needed.
I recommend lunarpages, has any one else got any comments on these three ISP.
Does anyone else in the UK have any comments about moving business from United Hosting? Good at talking the talk, but not so good at walking the walk.
Thanks
Kevan

Well,
I was very unfair to United Hosting, and apologise if I show them in a bad light. I still have a site with them, and will continue to do so.
Ipowerweb are a bunch of monkeys though.

I am personally hosted with HostICan - my website is www.adflexpro.com (you can check the whois) and I am very impressed with the customer care response time and the self-help knowledgebase.
