I am going to a Microsoft seminar on may 15. about Vista :-) Xp is good enough for me. Hope Vista will be better. I am looking at Linux when / if I have free time.

1. This is a great book.

From a birdseye view,

1. Learn how to send query strings via the URL, store it in inbuilt PHP arrays and retrieve the information to present it on a webpage.

2. Do the same via forms.

3. Learn to physically connect to MySQL (my first post on page 2 of that thread) and learn elementary SQL statements.

4. How to connect to the database via PHP statements, embed SQL statements in PHP and finally build a databasedriven C(ontent) M(anangement) S(ystem).

Thank for the quick reply and the info, but I am not sure that is quite what I wanted. I have a website built in a series of Active Server Pages with embedded SQL - I just need to test it offline.

I think that book explains it. It also explains how to set up MS IIS (Internet Information Services) server. The first chapters from sitepoint books are usually free. The setup and configuration are explained in chapter 1.

- SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is free.
