Default Outlook 2000 folder issues

to anyone who might be able to...HELP!

Last night when returning to my computer work, on opening Outlook, I received a message stating that the personal.pst could not be accessed and was given the option to create new or copy.
Upon creating a new folder, I was told that the user profile had been changed and that some options may not be enabled. The program began to download 160 messages dated back from Nov. (these were archived on another system) None the old rules were accepted.

When trying to open the old personal folder tree, was told the folder was already in use and could not be accessed. please close all open applications and try again.
nothing else was running!

I tried to run scanpst.exe, and was informed that the process could not run as the folder had been locked by another process/ program and plaese try again after closing all other programs.

any ideas on what to do next?
I can't completely dumped the old folder as it contains a lot of important information that I had yet to print.( ran out of paper :-) )

I had a (not that) similar problem with a corrupt .pst file a while back and couldn't access it.

What I did was copy it and rename it, then tried to repair that. It worked and I got the important stuff back when I imported it.

There's also this Knowledge Base article:

Thanks, Sauldam!
That helped a lot ( and worked, too :-) )

I just had to rebuild my rules and folder filters.

btw, if you have have more than one .pst file, make sure "Deliver POP mail to this personal folders file" is checked under Properties of the wanted/needed folder.

now I must read/go thru the 100s of messages I received while trying to deal with this problem!!
