If the disk containing part of the RAID-5 volume cannot be reactivated and the volume does not return to the Healthy status, you should replace the failed disk region in the RAID-5 volume

Does this help? Technet is pretty 'technical' sometimes, but if you are running RAID5...

Troubleshooting :

What caused the dats loss?

Mik Mik,

Appreciate the suggestions.

What ended up causing it, after our learn as we go tech guys, started thinking...

We had a script on each page, which generated logs,
of visitors...

And somehow at the Same time the server took a dive, the script started acting funny, so as we were trying to regenerate.... the cpu we found was being tied up 100%....

That was part of the problem....

Not having ducks in line on the server, trying to save money doing it too cheaply another problem...

They ended up moving the hard drives to another server we had, which was not connected to our T1 line, we really are learning as we go....

And got the drives to regenerate...

Then made copies of the drives....

Then put them back in the server, and regenerated on it... it took a long time, and when done, pages on one site were still slow slow slow, when one of the guys figured what the script had started doing, and disabled it.....

A key thing to making it work, was a fix on google they found, where you can "ghost" the operating system on the fly... they were happy to find that info.

So all in all, a very educational experience, but they want to sleep a little bit now :).

Stephen
