Hey there,
This has been a nagging problem for me. I thought I would throw it out to the community for some possible help. I have several computers with the same configuration running Windows2000 with all the MS updates, norton 2005, 512MB ram, IDE drives, CD-ROM, on a network.. fairly standard stuff. One of the computers takes from 5 - 10 seconds to present the dialog box to OPEN or SAVE a file. It is aggrevating.. Any one know what the problem might be? or places I can look? Thanks in advance

This problem also occurs on Win XP, as well as in cases where there are no networked drives involved.
Additional causes include: 1) Low free RAM, resulting in paging delays; 2) File and/or Directory fragmentation on target drive; and, 3) Insufficient space in Swap (i.e., Paging) file.
