I'm not really a hard-core computer wiz, but it seems that really amd is just as good a pentium for your uses.
Yes it tends to be more used by techies and gamers, but I think that has more to do with amd's ability to be over-clocked, it's cheaper and the fact that most of the general public have only heard of Intel because of their superior branding.
I'm actually going to be dumping one of my systems for an AMD early next week. We'll see how it goes.
If you can get your hands on Maximum PC magazine (December 2003 issue), they have a head-to-head showdown comparison of Amd - Intel - Apple.
In the cpu category, they did a comparison of the new AMD Athlon 64 FX-51 against Pentium 4 3.2Ghz and say AMD beats out Intel.
