You need Adobe Acrobat (the full version not the reader). The latest version costs $450US for the professional version. Adobe has a trial of Acrobat 6 on their site. I'm not sure how functional the trial is but give it a try before spending the money.
Joe edit: I just checked adobes site and they do have a cheaper version and also an online converter. They charge $9.99 per month for the online version. |

An alternative would be to download the Open Office suite from Sun Microsystems. You can open Word documents and output to PDF (for free!).

There are plenty of other free converters out there, an example is http://www.clicktoconvert.com/index.html?source=e5
Normally, you have to print the document and then select the pdf converter as a printer. Choose how much compression and off you go.. Do a google for 'free pdf converters' Good luck.. |

PDF creator is a simple but efficient PDF converter, it works on many other applications, not just word.
if you are using Microsoft Office 2007 it has PDF file conversion by default. when you click on the Save Us button, choose the format underneath. |
|
|||
|
the plugin will only work if you are using office 2007.

If you had bothered to read the thread before posting, you would have come to know that there are any number of free converters, capable of handling any printable document, easily had.

And, if on a Windows machine, with either Adobe or a suitable converter installed, it's just as easy; simply enter <CTRL><P> and select the PDF "printer!"

This is way out there... Get your hands on a copy of Macromedia Flash Paper (came with Studio 8). It has a PDF converter built in. Flash Paper is kind of cool too, since you can embed it in a web page just like Flash. You can still buy it from Adobe.
Flash Paper 2 If you want professional results, Acrobat 9 Pro is the best overall program for creating portable document format, especially since you will be able to do a lot more than convert .doc. You can print, edit, optimize, redact, delete pages, and so on with any number of document formats, including Publisher, PowerPoint and Flash. You also have more control over document security, timed redaction and expiry dates, multiple user level permissions, etc. The Open Office solution is a very good suggestion. Even though it does not compare to Word, it comes close to mimicking it, and the other Office applications. Wish it was more compatible with Dreamweaver, though. I have yet to find a way to drop CALC tables into Design View tables like you can do with Excel. Last edited by weegillis; 01-25-2009 at 03:31 PM. Reason: disable smilies |

The best regulated communities, regardless of their form, are those which are self-regulated.
While I do wholeheartedly concur re. the usefulness of this forum's search function, a shortcoming that is far too common, I submit that such is quite irrelevant to the issue at hand, i.e. that of reading a thread prior to adding to it.

How do you spell "crow?" I'm usually scanning a topic and in this case, my scan 'suggested' there was another thread being referred to that was four years old.
"How do they find these old threads?" was my thought. "I can never find anything, no matter how I try." Truth is I search my archives for old WPW newsletters (and notifications that may have hung around) more than I do this forum. Anyway, my bad for not really reading the thread. Geesh. It only took a small house falling from the sky to make that clear. Thanks. |

Is this old 01-19-2005, 07:12 AM problem still unsolved?
Look at the posting dates, number of posts and draw your own conclusion. I have got red rep points for bringer more relevant posts than this to the surface. |

I've no problem with adding useful, substantive and relevant information to an old thread.
What I do object to is those who add nonsense or content which duplicates that already present. God only knows how often I've received an e-mail alert re. new posts, only to find that, by the time I re-visit that thread, such post has already been purged by a moderator. Such miscreants serve only to waste my most valuable resource, my time.
