Re: DG834
ADSL Broadband Firewall Router Only the LAN's disconnects without activity to both PC's for around 30seconds, not my WAN (ISP) (well, the modem light stays green), even the 192.168.0.1 admin pages fail to display! This isn't at any particular time or when I use programs, its the same when I use eDonkey etc.... After about 30secs, everything is back up and running! This is no good as I run a mini-webserver (etc) on one PC so it's DMZ'd.... I tried 1.50 and 1.40 firmware, both same, no different.....I cant see what is wrong.. and no, it doesnt only happen when I use edonkey, it could happen any time, even when I'm not doing owt (yes idle is set at (0 = off) in admin panel).... When I eventually manage to get in the admin panel, the router statistics say that there hasnt been any breaks in either the WAN (ISP) or LAN connections (up time is same as when router was powered up).... Well weird....... I was using (still am until I sort out this damn modem router) the old fashioned UTP Cross-over cable & ICS (2 pc's connected 2gether), and have to use NetBEUI.... Would that be the problem? Here are how my NICs are configured: here, do they look ok? Both use DHCP (auto I.P's). I tried 3 cables: 1 cable that came with it, 1 utp i bought and the 1 utp crossover cable (the router detects both types by default) that I'm using now...... So it cant be the cables. I thought routers were easy plug n play! Or is that Plug n Pray?... lol Netgear suggested: Quote:
Anyone assist with this make, or do I have to buy a new router, if so, what make is best with a built-in modem? |

This forumalways lucked hardware tech people.
One thing to check with your ISP: check if the connection is dropped because of timeout/line-overload. Such things may cause modems to freeze and stop responding temporarly. Then most of them restore the connection... I have the same problem and after long tests I have contacted my ISP and theyr checked my connection for a day and found that it was because I was running at limit speeds(for my phone line) for upload. Thus, when ever critical value is reached, connection is lost because of suddenly dropped sequences of packets. As for the fact that it may drop when ever you do nothing... there still some connections active, aren't there??? I can't think of anything else...
