and cost..... also, dsl modems can only handle 8mbps/2mbps (going by UK standards), so they'll need upgrading too (depending how fast it is)....

The new internet is truly much faster and secure.
One part of the new internet will be implementation of IPv6. It will have embedded encryption and many other futures that current IP does not have. So if, as an example, we consider the Ip version 6 and conserns that other mebers have raised in this thread: As for the costs, what costs??? It is a publicly available protocol that will eventually become a standard for WWW. Finally, the speed issue is easily resolvable. there is no problem on running at lower speeds with new protocol(similar to running on DSL(up to 800k bytes) or T1(up to 10Mbytes). Though other problems may arise related to the equipment using old type of protocol. Two choices are now available to all users and hosts. One choice, the user will have to buy new modem or router if his own does not support new protocol. Second choice, the service provider will need to dynamicly determine user protocols and traslate them if needed. Note also that most of the pro type routers(Sisco) come with full support of both protocols. Fianlly, search on google for China and Japan implementations of IPv6 (they are leading countries in this type of developpment).
