Default winxp home-winxp home ethernet network

I have 2 PCs on WinXP home edition. I have tried to setup a network and it does'nt work.
I have all the requirement on both PCs and have follwoed all the instruction. help!

You need to provide more info.

What instructions?
What exactly have you done? -settings, etc.
There's more than one way to connect multiple computers.
How are you connecting them?
What type internet connection?

Here is more info!
both Pcs have network card installed and functioning,
There are connected to each other with twisted cables
and a switch between them. I have followed Winxp instructions all the steps but i always get the masage " You migth not have permission" and so on,
nither computer see the other one.
