What on earth could be the cause of my stats showing very wierd links from external pages?
This month my stats software says I have gotten 98 poeple come to my site from a link on this page: - http://www.kagakukyozaisha.co.jp/list22/6bm8.html (this site does not have a link to my site) Last month it was some a large number from some other page not related to my site and that does not have a link to me. My stats does show other correct and good data, like number of clicks from links I pay for on industry portals and such, and they are the same number as what I get in reports from these portals servers, so in that respect my stats software is working correctly - Why would my stats (AWSTATS) be showing something like this, is something going on I am unaware of? Any ideas??? What could be causing it? thanks! |

Tabed browsers may be the source of these stats.
I noted the site in question lists old industrial vaccume tubes and you have industrial products. If both pages where displayed on the same page of a SE and the user opened the other page in a background tab then open your page, the other page not the SE may show up as last visited site. I have no proof, this is just a thought.

It could be log file spam. Some site owners are trying to get hits to their site by making their url show up in your log file as if they're sending you hits when they're not. They've already got you to visit their site because it's showing up in your awstats.
