Default House Plan Database Creation???

how do I go about setting up a database that I can enter in my house plans for my website www.aboveallhouseplans.com and then they would automatically be catergorized and searchable? is there someone i can pay to build this database for me? or is there a simple software out there to do it for me? and no I don't want a shopping cart using php, I use frontpage to site build and a php script for links and it's killing me already...

any help would be appreciated...

hiya

i am a little confused - please clarify. you sai you need a database. what sort of info do you need in the database? how many records roughly do you need? if not many, i would recommend ASP and microsoft. but if MANY, then i would recommend mysql and php. or maybe mysql and asp.net

the more info you give us, the better replies you will get.

good luck
Clair

thanks clair,

well to be precise I need a database to hold my stock plans, one where I could use an interface to upload my plans, by selecting the graphic files, calling ou the name of the plan, and answering all the questions about the plan, like width, depth, square footage and such,

then it would store the plan and allow it to be searchable from my website.

I'm not interested in credit card sales or shopping carts, just a way to put the plans up and have them viewed and a simple way to repeat adding more...

I would like to get these results...
like the screen shots here

If you anticipate any more than 10 concurrent users I wouldn't advise using an MS Access database for backend storage. I know you haven't mentionned Access yet but just trying to give advice before the question arrised. Any server side programming language can be used to access a database, which one you use depends on what you are comfortable with and what you have available to use.

There may be a pre-written package that can do what you want and will set up the database tables for you, try hotscripts.com or similar. Creating DB driven applications from scratch can be as simple or as complex as you want to make them, it entirely depends on your requirements

If you want to do it yourself - and have a really cool tool for later use - pickup CodeCharge and design the front end yourself. Codecharge will generate the actual code is just about anything you want - php, asp, etc.

AS for a DB, MySQL is good and most Web servers have it. You can use phpMyAdmin to build the DB. Table design for your application isn't tough. You shouldn't need more than a few. The actual design is beyond this post, but look at it as another learning opportunity.

Send me a private message and I'll help, time permitting.
