Default Accessing MySQL database on external domain - how?

Hi,

A question that might be very basic, I don't know... And it could be that this varies greatly from host to host, and if so - any method more common than others?

How can I access a MySQL database on www.MyDomain.com from www.MyOtherDomain.com?

Do I need a dedicated server? Or would a shared or reseller hosting account suffice? I'd probably need a dedicated IP at the least, right? Or not? ;)

Default If...

If you can administer the database, change the host for the user account from localhost to %, or add a second account for user with a host of yourothermachine (by reverse IP, not by domain). Then do a flush of privledges.

Now, in whatever script you're calling it from, change the host from localhost to the first domain. That should be all you need.

Um.. I'm completely new to this, so I didn't quite understand the part about adding another user. What's a reverse IP?

I can change the host for my database to %. But what do you mean by "the first domain"?

(Sorry for being so ignorant :))

Default Ok...

Ok... so you used www.mydomain.com and not your first domain. Whatever the domain that your database is hosted on will be the host you want to enter on the other site. On occasion you'll have port 3306 blocked by a firewall, but that doesn't seem to be as common lately.
