Default PHP Manual

What do you think is the best book to buy to learn php. I don't need an idiots guide. Hoping for a comprehensive book.

The web is full of great tutorials for people at every stage of php. I personally would read these as they are well thought out and tested by half the planet. Also you will find support via threaded comments below many, from users having difficulties. A book can never offer support. Check devshed, phpfreaks, and sitepoint for some great starters.
