Meta Description.

If I have a meta description in my home page content, so why does google bring up some of my content rather than my description???!!!

My description is closer to what my site is about than the paragraph, but I'm worried that If I change something I'll loose rankings.

Due to keywords stuffing and other forms of spamming using meta tags most search Engines in particular G prefers to take the description directly from your web page content. The description displayed in SERPs depends on the query.

The content of your web page (what is visible to humans) is what matters to the end-users and to Google as well.
You should focus on the title, heading and the actual content. Make it relevant to your target keywords and keyphrases.
