Default World Series

As a Yankee fan, was very impressed with the Rays this year. Really enjoy this team. Hope they can pull it out.

Note how they took the 'Devil' out of the 'Devil Rays' and now all of a sudden, they are in first place!

Could God be a 'Rays' fan?

Well, apparently not with Cole on the hill!

Great first game, Phillies prevailed, hoping this one goes 7!

I am a ManU fan.

American fooball is not so popular here, but WPW is mainly an American forum, so you are forgiven. If I ever go to the USA, I should like to watch a match, and if I were younger ...

I think a discussion about http://www.webproworld.com/breakroom...tml#post399408 is more important.

World Series is baseball.

Baseball is great because you can continue to play it (men's softball) until you're pretty old actually. Basketball is tough because after a while all of that running/jumping takes a toll on your back and knees. Being younger, playing football is appealing because of putting on all of the pads (makes you feel invincible). You only get to play one game per week though, so its mostly practice, but as you get older, and you don't go college/pro, you play in local flag football leagues (no pads, full contact, can't 'tackle' the runner, but you still whack him anyway), but at some point its ridiculous because you can't risk the injury (try telling your boss you can't come to work on Monday because you were playing football!) (25-26 was about the end of it for me)

People think soccer isn't popular in the US, it is, it just isn't AS popular as baseball/basketball/football. As a child, I played soccer too.

I'll 'bust' on soccer, but just in jest.

They had the World Cup here in 1994 and naturally I watched a couple of games on TV. USA beat Colombia 2-1, guy headed the ball into his own goal. He was shot and killed in Colombia. That story really bothered me. If I had known that ahead of time, I would've hoped the US would've lost.

In order of priority (I have played all)
  1. Soccer.
  2. Handball.
  3. Basketball.

I assure you that even if you do not like watching baseball on TV, you would enjoy hitting.

Somebody who doesn't like soccer would still enjoy kicking the soccer ball at a goal, no? (Of course its inherently fun!)

Hitting is very difficult. In 'Little League' the mound is 40 feet away and the pitchers all throw fastballs (straight). When you turn 13, you start to play on the large field and the pitchers are 60 feet away now, so at first its an advantage for the hitter because the pitchers aren't throwing fast enough yet, but as you get older, it starts coming faster and faster. In high school, the typical pitcher is throwing 80 mph (pros throw it 90mph+) and starts to throw curves. {By comparison, as a fielder, I could throw as fast as 70mph, but I would feel like my arm would want to fall off and I wouldn't be accurate}

During batting practice they put you in a cage with a pitching machine which has two round 'tires' spinning which 'spits' the ball out at you at a constant speed. Since you're facing 80mph, they set it to 90mph and its very hard at first because the ball just comes out at you, BUT the ball is coming in the same spot, so after a while you know where to expect it and can hit it (a real live pitcher throws it in different spots of course). When they want you to face curveballs, they change the relative speed of the tires so that it puts a spin on the ball as it comes out.

This is when I realized I would not be a professional baseball player. Could not hit curveballs for the life of me.

Slow-Pitch softball is a different thing though. ANYBODY can hit the ball. Its popoular among many segments of society too. Here, many immigrants play, it is not uncommon for women to play (and the ones who do are actually good). The game is typically played 'to win' but not 'for blood' and serious injuries are very uncommon.
