The man who winched himself and his wheelchair up (with a few pauses on the way) to the top of the stadium to light the flag was awe-inspiring.

But the 12-year-old ballerina who lost her leg in the earthquake in May and who took part in the dance. Well, I am a cynical journalist of fairly advancing years. But I have to say there were tears in my eyes when I watched her. And the dance they choreographed around her? Out of this world.

We were lucky that the BBC broadcast the whole ceremony, live.

It's just a pity that all Doctors in Maternity in China are instructed to terminate pregnancies if Any form of dissabilty is seen in scans. The dissabled in China are shunned from society.
