Not sure if this is the right place for this so feel free to move if needed mods.
Basically, nerve wracking, high pressure, sell yourself on your strengths and weaknesses interviews. Any tips on how to be good at them? I'm a stuttering nervous wreck even though on paper i'm great and present myself well. Anxiety kills me at these things and i fear it may end up costing me some jobs i really have the skills and ability for. The jobs i have previously been offered were purely by fluking getting in there when they were desperate. I just went to ONE interview, sucked at the typing and word test, stuttered and went bright red like a fool, sounded like a noob when i have 4 years experience and now i'm just so terrified to go back out there and keep applying but i have to. Any tips |

Like yourself I was also nervous of interviews.
I had one in New York City and was a little early. So I took my seat and waited. I was specifically asked if I wanted any water/coffee by the secretary and I declined, but asked "How do you like working here?" Towards the end of the interview, the interviewer made some comment to the extent that speaking to the secretary was inappropriate. Thinking about it for half a second I was trying to think of something briefly that might 'save' the opportunity, but couldn't think of anything realizing that it was already lost. I just told him, 'You're crazy' and walked out.....was never nervous again.... |

Oh well , practice could overcome it . For me , I'm not nervous over it . Just resent to them what your worth will be to the company and well it's up to them whether they want you . No one interview is a make or break deal remember it .

There are relaxation CDs/tapes you can get. I think these can help.

It is perfectly NORMAL, (sorry to shout but stop thinking it is abnormal), to be nervous at interviews.
It's important change in your life. You could have a mild phobia and some Behavioural therapists may help you cope. Being on edge can actually help you preformed better. Think about, and write them down, (so that they can be remebered easier) the day before, your achievements, see which Positive words to say at an interview or job application. Not all Interviewers are good, (some are rubbish), it could be their fault more then yours. Pages to help you relax Last edited by TrafficProducer; 09-09-2008 at 05:08 AM. |

Normally I will advice the person to be cool and treat this as meeting your good friend to have a good chat. You have to familiarize with the job you intend to apply for and the company history. I had job interview many years ago and seems like having knowledge of what you are applying for will be most important as you will be able to answer questions being thrown to you.
