I agree, a unique band.
I think a generalisation would be which performers music will you still be whistling as you walk along when your 70. Those will be the super performers of your era. Wnderwall perhaps? |

Having played the drums for the last 20 odd yrs... Rush and Dream theater are two of my all time favs... for the simple fact that Neil Pert and Mike Portnoy are simply amazing! The techniques, time changes, skill, it just baffles me! There is no one else in the world that will ever beat the tracks that they laid down in the 70's! Lars tried... and failed miserably
.02 Here's a quick vid YouTube - Mike Portnoy - DVD Liquid drum theater - When the water ... definitely one of the best in the world that's TIGHT! Neil's still the best! http://youtube.com/watch?v=qUICMEqdAlM Last edited by Ne0; 06-22-2007 at 02:43 PM. Reason: added link to video Liquid Drum Theater and had to add one for Neil too! |

Emmerson, Lake and Palmer - ELP
Keith Emmerson is still rated as the best ever keyboards player - period -his talent is unique. Carl Palmer was a good drummer, but so was Danny Seraphine from Chicago - But I gues Buddy Rich still grabs the title. Greg Lake had a fantastic voice - but he too has landed with a bump - he went solo last year and began touring hailed as the 'originator of King Crimson and ELP' - he sold 50 (fifty) tickets at Skegness Embassy! How the mighty fall. |

No offense, but you guys haven't mentioned a single band in this thread I don't turn the channel on if they hit the radio.
Of course, I don't really listen to the radio... but - you get the point. Except Hendrix, but he wasn't a band - just referenced in context of another band. Rush's drummer is a great drummer and I can dig that, but 2 seconds of Geddy Lee's voice makes me want to stab icepicks into my ears.

Kgun would probably like Seals and Crofts too,
one of my favorite easy listening groups
http://www.sealsandcrofts.com/main.html,... But hardly considered the best of all time.
John Lord of Deep Purple is king of the keyboards if you ask me and as a band they are great but probably not the greatest, close though. Jimmy Page is master of the guitar, like Hendrix, and Led Zeppelin is awesome but Plant seems fruity to me I can get over it though. KISS can rock boulders but they look stupid to me sorry misterscreenjeans I wont look! Black Sabbath Ozzie Rules Rock! Ted Nugent Frampton Stevie Ray Vaughn Damn Good Stuff! There are soo many GREATS! Pink Floyd HEART ... is the best GIRL Band!! |

Kings of Leon, Brand New, Dashboard Confessional, Bloc Party, Death Cab For Cutie, Snow Patrol - These ARE the super bands
Up and coming super band - My Albatross (check out their .com for a listen) - top tip |

Never heard those clips before. Fantastic is the correct word. One of them, may be Neil, must be the "drummerer's Jimi Hendrix". If I forgot a band on my list, it is CROSBY, STILLS, NASH & YOUNG "CROSBY, STILLS, NASH & YOUNG “FREEDOM OF SPEECH ‘06” THEIR FIRST TOUR IN FOUR YEARS LAUNCHES JULY 6 IN PHILADELPHIA." A woman that want's to twist or rock to this classic or rock to this of Elvis Karaoke Text version here. Best clip? Then we have a different taste. Bad quality of the clip. OK, this may be better. Some of my friends said they were too perfect. Roxette - "The Big Love" Music Video End of this Joyride, thanks for listening and watching. so we end this clip session with "the King". That was pop music.

SRV = Very Good
Floyd = Very Good The Cure = Very Good Radiohead = Very Good At least we're getting a few. At this point I'm still pretty happy WPW isn't a radio station.

I was tired last night and had nothing better to use. In the Gettho by Elvis is still one of my favourites. |

I know it's small to quibble over spelling -especially with guys who don't speak English as their first language...
but 'In the Gettho' sounds more like a Nelly or 50 cent joint.

Do you know why I should like to learn Russian now? So much is happening in East Europe, and Russian is to most people there, like English in the west. Those countries also have some great mathematicians and statisticians. Finnish, I have extreme problems, even if it is our neighbour country. Some of them only know Finnish and not a single English word. Here is another favourite: Morning has broken and of course Wild World. Not to forget double Eurovision Song Contest, Grand Prix winner, Irish Johnny Logan. Have you met a woman / man from Ireland that can not sing?

Woa. What a question (did I say the same on the Movies thread?)
![]() Anyway Nirvana without a doubt, then in no particular order: Beatles (Abbey Road is the best) G 'n' R The Stones Queen The Kinks The Clash Green Day As for solo artists, I hope Amy Winehouse isn't referred to in the past tense as she is awesome. Hope she sorts herself out soon. Last edited by dharrison; 07-16-2007 at 07:18 PM. |

Bill Wymans Rythm Kings |

Nice combo, but I wouldn't think you could call them a Super Band, unless you were being VERY subjective. But....if you're going in that direction, try Jools Holland's Rhythm and Blues Orchestra (and don't even think about including ANY band which played "Tobacco Road").
|
|
||||
|
Ok let's see...
Mamas and the Papas. (<--- two women and two guys marcie!) Simon & Garfunkel Pink Floyd U2 The Cars Actually most bands in the 80's also make my list, but my short list is comprised of just a few from the 60's, 70's, and 80's.

Super bands.
Apparently Supertramp were one of the first "Super bands" but I never rated them very highly. It came over as the musical equivalent of painting by numbers... My own personal super bands? Just a few of them here... ELO, Cheap Trick, Blondie, Wizard, Jefferson Airplane, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Savage Rose (best band out of Denmark, imo) Fat Mattress, Keef Hartley Band... Ah! The memories! |
|
||||

Agree.
Overall Best Music from Scandinavia: YouTube KW search: sibelius symphony (There are so many hist, so try yourself). Try Symphony 4 & 5 if you find good records of them. SuperBands ? Best Norwegian: Grieg and Peer Gynt Morning Mood of course. "Program music" compared to Sibelius.

Well, discounting all the Swedish money music (Abba etc), I think you have to go a long way to come even close to NHØP (Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen), but there again, not a Super Band (what does "Super" actually mean in this context ? What's a band ?)
|
|
||||
|
Abba won the all times best GP melody with Waterloo. But noboy can IMO touch Sibelius as the porducer of the greatest overall music in Scandinavia.
Yes, what is a band? What is music? What is noise? The first time I heard the Rolling Stones it was noise to me personally. IMO Rolling Stones did not touch The Beatles when I was young. I like them better today. Sibelius was super IMO. His music is super and some of the bands who play his music are Super Bands, again IMO.
