Question. Is the quantity = 0 represented the same in all number bases? How about 1? how about too?

So, let me get this straight. 0 - 9 are the same as decimal and all multiple of 6 base?

For all radixes, the symbols 0 thru (X-1,) where X is the radix of the base system in question, have precisely the same connotation in all radixes greater than X. Thus:

1) Base 1 : Zero (0) = 0 (decimal) in Base 2 and higher;
2) Base 2 : 0 and 1 = 0 and 1 (decimal,) respectively, Base 3 and higher;
3) Base 3 : 0, 1 and 2 = 0, 1 and 2 (decimal,) respectively, Base 4 and higher;
...
10) Base 10 : 0 thru 9 = 0 thru 9, respectively, Base 11 and higher;
...
13) Base 13 : 0 thru 9, A thru D = 0 thru 9, A thru D, respectively, Base 14 and higher;
...
16) Base 16 : 0 thru 9, A thru F = 0 thru 9, A thru F, respectively, Base 17 and higher;
...
ad infinitum

I'll take that as the correct answer - YES!

1494 - The Ajax, Achilles or Exeter?

Fantastic photos ctabuk.

You might find this of interest:
Quote:
Sinking of the Graf Spee

Oh there was a jolly ship built in Nazi Germany,
And the name of that ship was the Admiral Graf Spee;
And she looted merchantmen of ev'ery nationality
As she sailed upon the rolling, bowling,
As she sailed upon the rolling sea.

She met three cruisers of the British army,
And to stop them she knew would put Berlin on the spree.
Their commander laughed aloud: 'Now merry game there'll be,
For I'll sink them 'neath the rolling, bowling,
For I'll sink them 'neath the rolling sea.'

She fired her mighty guns, did the Admiral Graf Spee;
Her captain laughed aloud, and hugged himself with glee,
But he swore a hasty oath as the little cruisers three
Came dashing over the rolling, bowling,
Came dashing over the rolling sea.

'To the helm, quick,' he cries, 'and turn face right merrily,
Or our Fuhrer's small moustache we never more may live to see.'
With his tail between his legs, in his ear a lively flea,
He went scurrying through the rolling, bowling,
He went scurrying through the rolling sea.

Yes, the 'bear' he went to cover where his wounds
the world could see,
For the British bulldog bite had hurted painfully,
And the foeman speeding forward knew the fight that he had seen
Would end beneath the rolling, bowling,
Would end beneath the rolling sea.

Yes, and this was the end of the Admiral Graf Spee,
And perhaps it was for this that a pocket ship was she,
For in Davy Jones's pocket, scuttled most ingloriously,
She rusts beneath the rolling, bowling,
She rusts beneath the rolling sea.

Since the Exeter was heavily damaged, and forced to withdraw to the Falklands, that leaves Achilles or Ajax.

Scuttling was a fate undeserved by such a fine vessel.

Many who participated in and survived WWII are/were most reticent about speaking of their experiences. My father spoke little of it, even with my mother; and, then, only of matters unrelated to the heart of war. It was only shortly before his untimely death that he began to open up to me about the dark side of those times.

His own personal horror happened on D-day. As an MP in the U.S. Army Air Corp., he was assigned to a C47 carrying paratroopers to Normandy. At the time, it was not uncommon for the static line to not disconnect from the parachute, resulting in the jumper being trailed behind the aircraft, being repeatedly slammed into the fuselage until he was a bloody pulp. It was my father's duty that day to cut the poor fellow loose, so as to clear the way for the rest of the group. That the guy was either already dead, or unlikely to survive even had it been possible to retrieve him, did not serve to make his task any easier. That MPs were selected for such job owed to the fact that, as they were billoted separately from the jumpers, there was much less chance of the MP and the jumpers having a personal friendship that might serve to interfere with the necessary swift execution of the hellish task if and when needed.

My father told that story once, and would never again visit it.

how about one more chance... that would make my day

I won`t deny it
I know that I`ve done wrong
But you have to admit it
This love is just too strong
To just fade away into the night
Without putting up a fight
We can make it all alright
If we just give it on more try
So

What must I do to make you want to stay
And take the hurt away
And leave it all to yesterday?
What can i say to make you change your mind?
To have the chance to turn the hands of time
Back to the days when you were mine?
Just give one more chance for one last time

And what can i say to make you change your mind
To have the chance to turn the hands of time
Back to the days when you were mine?
Just give one more chance for one last time.
Just one more kiss to last a lifetime
One more chance for ono last time.

A great read indeed.

I cannot comprehend what 'courage' and 'purpose' mean. Thanks, deepsand and cta-buk.

I almost forgot(as the hairs were rising on th' back of my neck and getting chills) that 1507 is a certain percentage towards our goal.
I wonder if we are on track for 30 yrs. I wonder if I am drooling at times.
Note to self, must pay more attention.
(To posting numbers, I mean!!)

1510 Possibly very rare - The Illustrious being bombed and nearly destroyed at sea. Taken by my father from the HMS Queen Elizabeth

Early in 1941, she suffered extensive damage and many casualties in a relentless attack by Stuka dive-bombers. After emergency repairs, she managed to escape to the United States where she was refitted and returned to active service in late 1941. After playing a major role in operations off Diego Suarez, Salerno and Sumatra, she supported the US landings at Okinawa. This was to be her final action of the war. After hostilities had ended, she returned to home waters as a training and trials ship before being laid up in 1954 and finally scrapped in 1957.

At a different machine than usual; had to install FF so that I could get to the end of this thread.

Still no sign that the crew at WPW is making any progress re. the various problems resulting from the page redesign.
