Default Talking like a techie

Hi all,

Something I just stuck down in an email reporting spam has got me thinking.

Basically, I made a bit of a bitchy comment about a spam mail that I read on this forum earlier and when I apologised for my behaviour, I said "spam for breakfast always makes me feel sick".

The first ever techie phrase had to be a "bug", which listening to a radio 4 interview some years ago, this was because an insect had got into their computer (this old computer was much bigger than the present day computers).

And my question to all of you is: What techie phrases do you use on a regular basis and what is your favourite one?

Mine is definitely the "Spam for breakfast" comment but I also say I'll Eem (typed e-m for Email) or Peem (typed PM for Personal Message) you.

Its a Saturday, lets have a bit of fun. :)

BIB error

BIB stands for "Back In the Box". I am sure you all remember reading, listening to the transcript of the the technician dealing with the 'stupid' computer user. The user could not get the PC to switch on and after a conversation checking various things like cables plugged in etc. The Technician found that the users house/premises were currently experiencing a power cut and therefore the PC would not switch on anyway! The technician finally told the user to get the original box and put the PC "back in the box". To which the user replied "why?". The technician responded "Because you are too stupid to use a computer!"

The phrase BIB error was coined with myself and a number of coleagues at the firm we worked for and has stuck ever since.

BIB error refers to stupid errors made by users and techies alike (we all do it don't we?)

take a look at the L337 Dictionary and you'll see what i'm talking about. essentially, it came from lazy programmers who didn't feel like correcting their typing mistakes. it's now becomes it's own language.

here's an example (for those that don't game regularly)

OMFG, C5r just pwn3d j00!!1!1! w00t!!111! c5r R0xx0R555!!

I play online games (Counter-strike) and pwned is common - as chris has said, pwned comes from typing a 'p' instead of an 'o' which are of cpurse right next tp each pther pn the keybpard.

noob, nub, boon are all words to describe a newbie I am sure we all know these.
