Default What do you have on your Monitor?

I admit it, I find computer monitors boring!!!!

I learned this several years ago when I had to stare mercilessly at one day-in and day-out! I still stare at one everyday, but now.............I have a monitor with personality!!! ;)

I no longer cover my monitor with post-it notes. Wait! I still have one or two hanging around, but I think they're either there to stay or a figment of my imagination. Either way, they are not what adds personality to my monitor. The truth is ...... while most computers have bugs ........ my monitor is the one covered in bugs! Caterpillars to be exact. Eight legged, tennis shoe wearing, ball capped, soft, furry, cute, and cuddle caterpillars.

They sold these little caterpillars at Wal-mart five years ago. I saw my first one there, bought him (I think it's a him?) and placed him on my monitor, only to have another join him shortly after. Then it was a hysterrically laughing ladybug. She's purple of course, which may, or may not explain the hysterics.

So now, I have a green caterpillar and a yellow one, one purple ladybug that laughs for no real reason, AND...... a purple M & M by the name of Pesky. Pesky has a problem with sticking his tongue out, ALL the time. He's made that way so I don't hold it against him, but it is still rather rude.

While the top of my monitor looks like a zoo, it doesn't stop there! The menagerie spills over, onto the monitors base and then to the desk top (what you can see of it). There you will find miniature paper boats (roughly the size of a penny, folded carefully by my oldest son), one lobster, a flop-eared dog, one medium sized G.I. Joe 'action figure', a handmade christmas ornament that resembles a kleenex box - miniaturized of course, two dog slobbered donald ducks, and two Taz coffee cups. The space is a wonderland in its own right.

I keep thinking I should clean it all off, but...... I think critically all day, I wear the warm smile and extend the firm handshake, just like any professional but, ............. when I get down to business and have to stare at the monitor for hours - I have to do it MY way! Give me the crazy critters, old abandoned toys and unsinkable ships, because even when you're hard at work, you still need a reason to smile. :)

So....... what does your monitor hold? ;)

What isn't on my monitors!

Let's see...there is:
... a talking racoon that says "hasta la vista baby!"
... an All Blacks kiwi mascot
... a koala that sings national anthem
... 4 speakers
... a webcam
... lots of post-it notes, but the desktop computer ones
... and a few unmentionables

and then there is my Star Trek Nemesis desktop background. So I suppose you would say my computer has a fair bit of personality ;-)

And Ronnie....dust on the monitor...sacrilage my dear man!! ;-)

On attached or stuck to the monitor I have ..... Nothing.

On the workstation area apart from the usual computer bits (speakers floppy disks Cd's etc) I have food (umm 5 and a half 200g bars of fruit and nut chocolate and a tube of texas barbeque Pringles - OK OK a 3/4 empty tube) Of a personal nature all I have is a toy vulture sat on the top shelf looking down at me. WHY you may well ask. Well I use the pen name Voorschten Vulture for my American Football articles and one day an American sent it too me :)

On my monitor edge, I have several/3 American Red Cross "Be Nice to Me, I Gave Blood Today!" stickers and one that says "Starve a Mosquito, Give Blood!"

I have no idea why I kept these, on my monitor, no less!?

On my printer, I have taped a button reading "Computer Guru" that my mom gave me.

Hanging from the overhead clipon lamp is a hotpink plastic Hawaiian lei.

My desktop I have my name tag that I made with my labeler.. by laptop has a great big PHP sticker on the back that covers the evil gateway logo.. other than that I have nothing. I guess I have to be a woman to actually care what my computer looks like... unless ofcource yer a gamer geek and want all the neon lights and glow fans you can get... because hey.. it looks faster.

Hey now, I resemble that remark! ;)

Laptops just are not as much fun as desktops - well, unless you're carrying it around everyday, and then I can see the benefit of not having a lot of things piled on your laptop. ;)

I keep waiting for someone to mention chattering teeth, or hopping rabbits. Those little wind up toys that drive you crazy but entertain everyone. :)

There was a time (in a place long, long ago) when I had one of them plastic arms with a clip to hold documents velcroed to the side of my monitor.

Then I had a sticker once that was just a circle with the letters TUIT in the middle of it. Had a magnet like that too.

But now, it is just dust. Lots and lots and LOTS of dust. Which reminds me, I just looked at one of my dust-its...it says...huh?..."Dust me!!!"...Who put that there? ;0(

I get those on my car, too! If you look really closely, it says, "Scientific experiment underway. Please do not Dust Me"
Some big research project, I guess.

post-it notes! two, new cell phone numbers that need to be added to my phone and a reminder to publish a website that has been published long ago. Guess it could come down. lol

And pictures of my two grandsons. Old pictures (well, neither of them are a year old yet, so they are not so old) which will probably not be upgraded until the monitor is replaced. Or the kids in question complain.

Three possibilities; under the pile of laundry you were 'about' to do last week; under the pile of paperwork you were 'about' to do for the last month; under the pile of empty beverage cans and empty junk food containers that you have been 'about to give up' for the last year!

Hint: Keep a spare monitor around for emergency use. LOL (if you can find where it attatches...)

Boy Sonnie...it sounds like you are ready to jump the fence and chase the next truck that comes down the road.

That reminds me of a neighbors dog when I was just a youngin', who used to jump the fence and chase every car that drove by. It got up close to the wheels and put it's face close to them and bark at the damn hubcaps.

One day somebody removed their hubcap and tied a red rag to the hub then drove by that stupid dogs fence. He leapt the fence, got up close to that rag and sunk his teeth into it. Boy...that knocked the mutt for a loop....or two. ;0)

I wish I had a picture of that to put on my monitor just for giggles! (this line added to keep the post on topic...I would never want a pic of that, it would cover my dust)

My old monitor, may it rest in peace, was covered by post-its and stickers.

The stickers:

1. Normal People Worry Me
2. I'm right, you're wrong, any questions?
3. I finally got it all together but I forgot where I put it.
4. Protected by Witchcraft

Coolo_chris thanks for jogging my memory, but now I'm curious about that second sticker. ;)

Default Procrastinate... moi?

I've had a Post-it note with the same three reminders on it for the past two months:

(1) buy a tape for HP Colorado backup device.
(2) buy laser cartridge for Sharp laser printer.
(3) check out rosettastone.com (language site)

If someone can send me a periodic reminder of the above, I'll remove it right now!! :o)

If your anything like me (god forbid!), it wouldn't work Paul. I have the computer desktop post-it notes, and they do remind you about your note. My worst habit is...clicking 'remind me later' ;-)

If anyone wants to try these computer ones, go HERE

The computer desktop post-it notes are great, but harder than hell to carry around the store with you!

It took me a while, but I finally figured out that having my grocery list on desktop post-it notes was detrimental to my back and extension cords. :p

(and to my spelling apparently!) :)

Last year I was in my kitchen grabbing a glass of water when I hear this huge pop. I quickly ran into the office to see what had caused such a noise. As I entered the office I see this gigantic mushroom cloud rising from my computer monitor followed by flame. This is when I realized that there is a such thing as internal combustion! HAHA!

Needless to say I do my best to refrain from putting any type of combustible objects on or around my computer monitors EXCEPT:

1. A worn out Stanton 500-II record needle
2. A printed picture from the movies Hackers

What caused it to catch on fire JP?

I'm fanatic about keeping dust away from around anything electrical like that. A friend had her TV catch on fire from dust, she had curtains behind it & consequently lost most of her house.

<<scolds herself for having combustibles around monitor>> ;-)

I think it was something in the wiring that caused it cuz I keep a pretty clean area around the computer.

**looks around computer area** well I used to anyway.
