Default Halloween

It seems like Halloween is losing its appeal now days. I can remember growing up and getting excited about going trick-or-treating. I'm too old to do that now, of course, but it interesting that I hardly ever see kids trick-or-treating. Not that I want them banging at my door, but it's just an observation. I used to hear about a lot of Halloween parties too, but there don't seem to be to be a lot of those anymore either.

Does anyone here dress up for fun or parties?

My daughter goes to a Christian nursery and they've pretty much ordered us not to dress our kids up in Halloween gear.

They explained that the reason for this was because Paganism (and especially Wicca circles) are becoming increasingly popular amongst children and early teens and children cannot determine at that age (3-5) between fact and fiction, therefore "we" don't condone it.

Why don't they just tell the truth? :-?

There is a new search engine where you can enter your zip code to find Halloween events in your neighborhood:

http://googhoul.com/

(Wonder when Google will bring the lawsuit?)

LOL - I think Google will enter the 'spirit' of it. Probably they know they have a 'ghost' of a chance of winning.

Amazing how small some peoples minds are when it comes to Halloween.

This going to be a great halloween for me. First time in many years that I have been getting ready for the little trick and treaters. There have been a few stores openning up just for this holiday. One of the best holidays we have in the USA.

50,000 at one party. That is one party I would not mind going to. Everyone dressed up. Make sure you bring your camera for the pic posting. :)

Every year I have a costume party at my house for halloween and every year fewer and fewer people attend. I get reasons like .... "I just don't have the time", "Costume's are getting too expensive", "Is it REALLY a good idea to promote halloween?"....

People worry about their kids getting poisoned candy, or getting kidnapped, or hit by a car.... If parents would just GO with the kids..... I won't rampage my thoughts on that one...

Halloween is just a FUN time of year. That is all it is supposed to be. Isn't it? Atleast it was when I was growing up. There was no right or wrong or religions pro's/con's to it. It was just costumes, kids, candy, hay rides, apple cider, and apple bobbing. What is everyone doing for halloween?

halloween is about my favorite...

it's pretty much time to be thinking costumes and whatnot. if you wait too much longer you're stuck with leftovers.

What's wrong with an alternative view to the mainstream, often "fanatical" religions ... I actually can't think of ANY wars fought over Wicca but I can think of many wars and much loss of innocent life justified by organised religion. As a matter of fact "statistically" ORGANISED RELIGION is a killer, often leading to ethnic cleansing and racial hatred ... Give me Wicca, and an "Earthmother" type god anytime.

David,

I see your point, but I'd hardly call my daughter's Playschool "fanatical" in any sense of the word. They just don't celebrate Halloween at the playschool.

Doesn't mean to say we won't celebrate in general. Of course we will! I'm not an actual committed Christian as such and neither are my children. I've made my mind up about my beliefs and I daresay my children will when they're old enough.

Everyone has their beliefs, this just happens to be the playschool's. Everyone is entitled to beliefs, whatever the religion.

Would you give the same speech to a Muslim for not eating Beef?

I have issues with all organized religion. Wars and oppression of the people have happened under the banner of just about all religions, Buddhism being about the only exception I can think of.

I also consider any religion that imposes their beliefs on to their followers as fanatical, so yes I would speak openly to Muslim, Catholic, & Jews alike about the senselessness of outdated religious rulings about diet, made before refrigeration was an option.

I think it is great that a person likes to have this type of party at their house. I wish I knew people that would like to hold these types of parties. I would go every year they had it. To me it is fun to try if you have the time to make your own costume. Where I live I hear about 5 families always have a party at there house for the kids. They have around 50 people there and have lots of fun. I used to have a lady in the neighborhood where I live dress up every year as a witch. She had all kinds of fun stuff. When I took my child there he always had fun. We would always talk about that place for a week or so. Now-a-days you get something only at a business place. They will be having one at a outdoor movie place this Halloween. The place will be packed for the gift they are giving away. Just hope it does not rain this year.

Halloween one of the fun holidays we have in the USA.

Default this years halloween costume

I can leave my decision till the last moment, I am an entertainer and have built up a selection of costume options. Last year I went a a drunken Santa, which was really cool, especially when a friend's 4yo sidled up to me and told me what he wanted for Christmas. The year before I went as a doctor, wearing surgical gown, stethoscope, hat and mask, with funny glasses.

I recently had a shoulder replacement (at 46 mind you) so with a bit more metal in me now perhaps I should go as Steve (the 6 million dollar man) Austin's little brother Dave the 6 thousand dollar man. Though 4 weeks on full life support, and a few x rays, scans, etc. a few years back probably put me up in the 6 hundred thou mark.

So as you can see there is no shortage of imagination here, and with my wardrobe and a nearby second hand store, a tin or two of spray paint, and I could be anything.

Just been to a great party with the wife, kids and friends. I might even post some photos. Here in the south east of England, Hallowe'en is getting bigger each year.

We are right in the middle of our Halloween Party in Brisbane, Australia.

My sister came as an original "Charlies Angel", I think, or at least that's the era the outfit came from, or maybe "Mod Squad".

If you thought "Bad Santa" was an off dude, you should meet the "Evil Elf", that's me ... I won't say to much more.

We also have an "Alice Cooper" several butterflies, and a pirate, but dissapointingly no "Micheal Jackson" this year.

Happy Halloween everyone....

Jackos gotta be the ultimate in horror.

I know I'd shriek and run if I saw him (LOL).

Speaking of Jacko, I've got the pleasure of making a jack-o-lantern today. And then making Pumpkin Pie, or Pumpkin Soup.

I'm gonna dress as a devil tomorrow for our party, my son's being a pumpkin and my daughter's being a witch.

Anyone have a problem with eggs? Seems the teenagers (showing my age here) 'round here have taken to throwing eggs at non-compliant households.

In Braintree (near where I live) elderly people tend to get their bungalows pelted with eggs, but I guess we'll find out on Monday.

I had a 15-year-old knocking on my door at 10pm one Halloween. I never answered the door and he just stomped off without any trouble (the beauties of living in a village).

I tend to give out boxes of raisins or something good for them rather than sweeties. Guess thats just the Mum coming out in me.

Halloween is definitely one of my favorite holidays, one of the few we decorate for. Like wenwilder said, it's all about FUN.

We just moved into town, after three years of living in the middle of nowhere, so we s/b inundated with kids this year. We bought tons of candy just in case (got the stuff we like in case we have left-overs). I can't wait to see the kids' costumes.

Well today is it. Halloween time. Going to be fun to go out and trick or treat. I love walking around the block and seeing what others have done, just to get ideas for the next year.

Have one lanteern all done and will get the other later today. Reason for the latnest is we have kids that love to break what you just did on your lawn or in the road.

Anyways I will have fun today. Hope you all to.

I am quite upset actually - I had a great outfit planned as a zombie cheerleadeR!

Thing is, I work in a pub next door to the university's student union nightclub, and they have a fancy dress theme every monday, which when we're working we get dressed up in too. Unfortunately some idiot at the uni missed the fact it was halloween and has tonight down as a pajama party, its on all the flyers and posters they've been giving out over the last month. So to save face they've now made it a 'spooky pajama party' at the last minute - how does a zombie cheerleader fit into that category?!

It doesn't does it, gutted, it was a great outfit too! I may just wear it anyway ;-)

We're having apple-sourz bobbing in a paddling pool in the pub should be a very fun evening at work!!

I went to my local pub for a halloween gig. The band rocked! Didn't really dress up tho. I put some face make-up on and got very drunk which was a lot of fun! I looked pretty evil! If the pics come out on my mates phone then I'll try and post them here so you can all have a good laugh!

Just go as a zombie cheerleader that is getting ready for bed? After all haven't you heard of cheerleading pj's? I have seen them in stores.

That person who is not up to par with this Halloween stuff needs to be dunked in with the apple-sourz.

How can one forget this great day/night. I bet the employees have been talking all last week about Halloween, probably a few tried to get out of work when they found out pj night.

Would you give the same speech to a Muslim for not eating Beef?

it is perfectly logical that they (the school) does not celebrate Halloween. It is a Pagan Holiday. But when you tell them that Christmas was also a Pagan Holiday (chosen to be the birthday of Jesus because the Pagans were already celebrating the birth of a God and it would be easier to convert the pagans over to Christianity) they get a little upset. Or they get really upset when you explain to them that ALL (American) mainstream holidays are Paganistic in origin.

well it would seem you all had a fab halloween, whilst bournemouth was not joining in much!

The biggest supermarket in the town centre had already cleared out their halloween goodies by 7pm last night and started stocking up on xmas goods, so all the last minute revellers couldn't get outifts! How rubbish! The zombie cheerleader did not get a chance! I was very disappointed :-(

I love your pictures though - your little pumpkin is so cute dharrison! Roll on november the 5th - one thing Bournemouth CAN do well is fireworks!

p.s. since I can't post my halloween outfit as it all got ruined, I would just like to show off my last fancy dress attempt as I made it myself so I was extra proud of it and it looked cool, I know its not a halloween outfit but I felt left out!

actually, last night was kinda laid back for me. i watched halloween on dvd (yearly tradition) and then watched a little bit of monday night football.

it seems i am becoming a hermit. ;) deb, i am happy (for the most part), i just hate making stupid mistakes, especially on a public forum. of course, i am an admin, so i could change all that. heh-heh.

and pag, all of you guys' care bare costumes were awesome. did you rent them or make them?

Interesting how a "Holiday" can really sort out the difference between men and women.

Males tend toward: Monsters, Goblins, Demons and Ghosts

Women tend toward: Fairies, Angels and "Fuzzies"

LOL

My favorite outfit was the year I went as "Naughty Red Riding Hood". I had a red hooded cape, fishnet stockings, hot pants, a basket full of condoms and I carried a stuffed wolf.

I won a prize at a bar party... I think he was tall, dark and handsome. Hee hee!
