Family Trees Growing on the Net
I was reading an article the other day that said approx 25% of Internet usage these days is in Genealogy (tracing your families roots). I know a few on WPW have an avide interest in geneaology. Yet, I've never seen it discussed much (except in passing). So I thought that maybe it was time it had a thread of its own.
So...do you partake in a bit of roots tracing? I know I do ! I have traced my family around the world and back to Scotland, England & Ireland in the 1500's. I've discovered cools thing about my family, such as my GG Uncle invented the spark plug (so you can think about that next time you start your car!) and a GreatAunt was nursing Titanic passengers on the Carpathia.
What interesting things have you found out about your families heritage?
And do you have favourite sites or mailing lists that you use in your research? Is there a favourite genealogy program you use, or do you use Excel or pen & paper (yes..pen & paper still exist!). I used Family Origins until I upgraded to XP, now I use Family Treemaker.
Lets hear about the skeletons in your closet :-)
