We've got 2 - 3 here in the state that would fit the first description...

Lake Sakakawea - because it is rather large, runs the course of what was the Missouri River, and thus combined has very few places you can cross it in the process of driving around it.

Lake Oahe - Same situation as above, but you'd be way down in SD before you got around it!

Devils Lake - Because it is at 100 year highs, and thus most of the roads that go around it, having been built long after the last time it was that high, are now under water! In fact one or two of them are notable fishing hotspots. You can still get around it, but it's a long way out of the way to get there.

Lake Tschida - You can get lost just trying to find it! Let alone drive around it!!

Most of the others are plenty deep enough... unlike neighboring Minnesota that boasts 10,000 lakes, we do not (as a rule) call sloughs lakes up here in ND! Although there are a few locally that are so named.

Rocky my parents are headed your way toward the end of the month for an old car get together. (They're members of The Rolling Oldies) Unfortunately, they won't let me come along! :( Guess I'm stuck at the Lake Minatare pond.

Guess I'll play some country music, chew on some alfalfa, dig out my old hat and sh..... umm boots, and see if the local county fair needs a clown ;)

I'm only kidding, sorry wclew lol

I cannot stand rap. I do listen to country, only when I have to ;)

Tell ya a secret. I work best when listening to Beethoven. I clean house best when listening to vary ecclectic composition of music - from Liz Phair, MatchBox 20, Frank Sinatra, Petra, Poison, Ratt, Josh Groban, Joi, Jeff Carson, Harry Belafonte, Barenaked Ladies, Lonestar, Maroon 5, Baha Men, Korn, and the list goes on. :)

Sometimes we forget that life is a journey to be experienced not a destination.

Okay, I'll bite.
Why do so many people hate rap? I love rap-metal fusion (Reveille, Rage Against The Machine, some Limp Bizkit - not much though).
What is so wrong with rap?

Euro-techno, now there is bad music, I mean bad. Bubble-gum pop, only less sophisticated and more repetitive, and very wimpy! IMHO, of course.
Does it have something to do with taking Ecstasy or massive quantities of valium, or something?

That's quite a broad mix, wen, I'm impressed. The only constant background music I can handle for long, is classical, but I always used to get into trouble with co-workers when I changed the radio station to jazz or classical. Everyone wanted easy listening and soft rock (talk about a contrdiction in terms!).

Okay, I hate easy listening and soft rock also, as much as euro-funk. Music with energy for this boy.

If it cooks, or has complexity, ya baby!

Songs have to catch my attention before I will stop and listen to them. The music draws me in and then the words keep me. If the words aren't there then the music is just noise.

A better way to put it is: There is no emotional attachment to rap. The combination of words and music do not elicit a response within my mind.

I have friends who ask me to listen to some of their favorite rap songs and I have yet to find one that I would listen to again. I guess I can't say that I do not like rap. I just do not enjoy it. It's like Opera - you either love it or you hate it. You can learn to appreciate it if you hate, but you'll never 'feel' it the way you would if you loved it.

Does that help any? :)

My turn to bite:

Not a great lover of rap either. However, as lyricists go I do find Eminem to be very sharp, very clever. Having gotten through the notoriety of his 'gratuitous expletive-usage phase' that got him noticed I find he is getting better with each new piece.

At least, unlike other rap-artists with 'borrowed' accents and heritage, he's not pretending to be something/someone he's not!

The main reason I don't like rap is that it just sounds like noise to me. Most of the lyrics are said at such a fast, sharp pace that I can't understand half of it. There are always a few exceptions though. I do enjoy a few Kid Rock songs. I guess he's probably considered more "hip hop" than "rap", but it's about the same to me. :o)

I guess I don't like a lot of "heavy metal" either for the same reason...sounds like noise to me. But there are some that I like too.

Hi again, cfg! You must have been at the 'Fringe Festival'.

Then there's this thread! Ha ha.
Hmmmm...

Personally, I find wrap very usefull.

It keeps my sandwiches from drying out, and Christmas just isn't the same without it, either. Neither. Not either, neither...uhh....what was the question again?

I don't like rap because I don't.

I do like Zappa because I do.

So much for personal taste. Now what ?

Zappa.

A man ahead of his time.

Luminary. Philosopher. Composer. Children namer.

Yo, Zappa, not rappa, see?

I am reminded of a story:
One morning in Canada, a man goes out to get his paper and sees his neighbor doing the same. He says, "Hello. Nice morning."

His neighbor, Bob, says "Not to happy about your son last night."

Frank says, "Well, he and your daughter went out, and they are both good kids, got home on time, etc. What's the problem? I thought you were in favor?"

"Yes, but when he brought her home, he peed on my snowbank!"
Frank laughs, and says, "Haha. C'mon, how do you know it was my son?"
Bob says excitedly, "He signed his name!"
Frank laughs again and says, "We all did that when we were boys haha. That's not so bad."

"Ya", says Bob, "but it's in my daughter's handwriting!"

This thread has had to take a short break as all it's posters have been sent to the corner for time out.

I'm not sure whether they will be released this side of christmas or whether they will even survive the time out corner due to the quality of the food being delivered there.

Jason seems to be quite happy with his jacket and I would suggest that perhaps for christmas we buy him a couple of these jackets in a few different shades.

So if you are looking for the missing posters from tomorrow, today or yesterday try the time out corner but beware you may become trapped in there with them.

Ellar,

Currently, in the "Twilight Zone", I find myself "not in the corner", and am able to post.

So, does 'everyone' who frequents this thread celebrate Christmas. Iyengar my friend, and others "spiritual but not religous", you might be able to escape your corners to answer this?

Further, and as to the "Co-ed wrestling" suggestion. What a cool idea. Not sure if it would be a popular vote-winner, but it has mine.

Question: The WPW Babes are getting out-numbered again. Where is the delectable G?

Default How old is CindyLu Who.....

The Holiday of Christmas is my thang..... Who doesnt look forward to watching "How the Grinch stole Christmas". Ya gotta find yourself mindlessly humming that tune.

Yes, I observe the religious side of the holiday but since I can remember I have always enjoyed the "spiritual" as well.

As I have gotton older and especially since I now have children... I have increased the holiday to 5 weeks. We start about our "Thanksgiving" and end just after New Years.

I dont mean im sayin' Merry Christmas the whole time... Its just a time I lighten up and we all get together for diners, parties and generally mellow out with friends family neighbors "webfriends" and the Who's down in Whoville...

Come to think of it... I do that in the Summer as well... wait a minute I also party in the Spring and Fall... and I even held open a door for a nice lady this mornin'

Oh well.... Merry Christmas

Hey Pete... was this an invitation to a Christmas Co-Ed wrestling party at your "flat"?

Christmas is my favorite time of year - well, outside of halloween. I LOVE to decorate for the holidays!

After Thanksgiving dinner you drag out ALLL of the Christmas decorations and start decorating. The tree is always the first thing put up. If you're lucky you go cut down the tree first thing Thanksgiving day.

Five weeks is not long enough to celebrate togetherness and thankfulness. I miss the days when the holidays weren't so commercial but..... if you buy a minimum of one gift (per family member) and donate it to Toys for Tots and then help out in a soup kitchen on Thanksgiving - donate extra food to them, help them serve. Simple things that mean the world to someone who doesn't have the simple things. You make the holidays more than just a buying frenzy ;)

Okay I'll put the away now

Default Subject change

Hi everybody,

I'm sure I'll change the thread latest subject as I can't force myself to read several pages which I missed since the time I was reading this thread carefully, but....

Here is the question - how do you fight with:

1. A whole bunch of tasks to do and have no idea which one I have to grab first?!

2. You do know what you need to do, but inspiration has left you:(

Default Nothing & Nothing inspires,

This is not a Thread.
There is no topic.
There are no discussions.
It is a sheer waste of time.
This thread reached its finale point.
This is not a wise one's cell.

Hi, stop, above comments are from our members who posted in the past. Oh, what a fine discussion on various subjects. Coffee, R.A., Tea, Jell-.. hhmmm, no chocholate.

Stop, Conclude. Okay I agre with the two Great Mods - Wenwilder & Mikmik, who thought yesterday about tomorrow and really in a fix after going through the entire posts. Driven by ... ooops, it is still inviting to post a word or two, even to the otherwise non-interested ones.

Myself, I am happy to see TRS Iyengar, my long time teacher and computer warrior friend. (Great link, previous post about inspiration)

I am glad to see my Gravity pal Artyom again, also.

Of course, the pleasure is mine whenever globalhostinggroup shares his wit.

But, now that you mention it, good question.

Think Artyom means 'annoyed', or 'mildly upset'?

Hi Janeth (Sex in The City flashback),

The thread with no topic is "still" going, still campaigning and recruiting for our long hoped for Jell-O wresting contest.

Are you available (pink bunny suit optional)?

Artyom,

The current situation, with regard to the school hostages is, bar the political and journalistic profiteering, as of the early hours, over.

Many, both adults and children, died.

That the national identities of the terrorists are 'open to question', i.e. claimed (by some quarters) not to be Chechen, if proven, is cause for global rather than regional concern.

As with the ongoing conflict in Iraq and continued atrocities in the Sudan and Israel, it is always the innocent that suffer.

They are in my thoughts.

Janeth,

The longest post/thread it may be, but its not only us "guys" that contribute here. Without you "gals" it would hardly be representative of the forum?

Besides, what would a conversation about "nothing" be without the active participation of both genders?

Default Everything about nothing!

Namasthe Every one. Ever since I hid myself in a secluded place to practice the forgotton YOGA, my thoughts were fully supportive my objective. Now, I Relax a bit for my usual routines.

Guru calling his disciple as "Guru" is empty an talk. (Hi Mike, you lost only two weeks, oh it is really half a month!). If you want someone to visit a particular place, tell them politely it is a place, just simply "Not for ladies"; Then both the gender will be jumping over there!

Thinking of Pink Bunny suit and the unimaginable images are empty stalk. Hi Pete, you are still thinking of the Jell-O-wrestling and wet banian contest etc? Now, beware, many other stronger faces are (forces?) are joining this empty talk club!

To change for nothing, or to make the topic more sweet, for the chocholate lovers, let them taste this one:

(Persons suffering from Sugar & cholastral to desist).

Mike, now are you switching to Bhagavad-Gita? You're becoming philosaphical - with your quotes - more than usual. Mar......_)

Seeing Janet in this thread for the first time in months; Goooood, now mnay more to follow!
