Okay...I would work on expanding your index before marketing your company. I typed in Arthritis, which is one of the largest search terms, and got not one single item of results.

Thats a good point.

However submitting to webmaster forums will expand our index. We are recieving over 200 new sites a day, so it wont be too long before users recieve relevent searches.

Keep in mind also its only been live for 6 days

Thankyou for your feedback - we value honest opinions

Question Re: Ground Floor Search Engine

I submitted our site, but you need LARGE amounts of marketing before it’s up and running. You also need to work on your results. Make sure the most frequent searches provide accurate results. I know you can manipulate the order and what sites are displayed, use that control to get the junk filtered out!

How are you going to stand out from all the other millions of search engines?

200 pages a day x 365 days = 73000 pages = almost no index compared to anyone else

if you really want to be a viable search engine, you'll need to come up with a faster way to get pages in your index or you are honestly wasting your time

For the first 4 weeks we have optioned to only crawl submitted sites, our spider howerver will crawl 50,000+ pages of each site and follow all links on that specified site, so it will be a cascading effect. We believe this is an honest approach to the industry.

With regards to standing out from the millions of search engines... well learn from the best we say - Provide free branded webmaster tools as google and yahoo does.

Hope this helps

Am I the only one that is skeptical of another traditional SE taking off?

Darryl, without the hype, what sets your SE apart from current industry engines (eg. Google, Y!, MSN, Ask)?

Visser—I don’t know if skeptical is the right word or not. It’s a free submit, so there really isn’t much risk. However, if this was a paid service, no way would I pay for it! Unless they provide something special, which I haven’t seen yet, the search engine wont go far.

About 2 years ago I built Rafting.bz. It’s a whitewater rafting and outdoor adventure search engine. We indexed over 100,000 sites when we opened our doors, added PPC ability to the site. The client I was working for didn’t put enough marketing money into the site, so as far as I know its been pretty stagnant in terms of growth.

There is always room for new search engines, but unless they offer something different or better, then its going to be a long rough road! Just my 2-cents!

This is where I would image Google Co-op to really take off as apposed to funded ventures.

I searched one of my keywords 'Right to Buy' and I was top

But under it were porn sites - probably a damned sight more interesting than my place.

Just be careful what you think of using.

You can owe me a million bucks for this -

'Where do good searches come from? Out of the Blue!

If you use it - remember where you got it

I added mine, too ... searches in my niches are looking pretty relevant, and some of my sites were already there.

It would be nice if you added a search box at the bottom of the results pages, too.

ctabuk: remind me to ask you for marketng tips! Excellent slogan.

Thanks for the alternative. Best wishes, MJ

Clean simple look -probably inspired by Google. I searched for "women Health" and it shows about 464 million results. Impressive. Most of the first page results were from government sites as you would expect from other search engines.

Until we play around with more search results, I admit, it is hard to see what kind of algo you would be using to trim the results. It sure looks interesting.

Yes this is a serious request, we have the financial backing, corporate sponsorships and my partner is known world wide. We have all the PR and Media outlets you could imagine. We are interviewing a few fairly seccussfull SE. However I would like to evaluate all our options and would consider buying, partnering or building. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, most probably it is like the Norwegian Twingine where you can compare results.

On Object Oriented Programming, I should prefer this

How Object-Oriented Programming Started It is no 22.

hit to be the first.

On financial stability, as a profesional, I should prefer this

FSF - Financial Stability Forum: Home

to be the first hit. It is the third.

There are a lot of meta search engines out there. This search engine does not have an about us page. I can not find how it is made.

One of the best known is the Canadian Mamma Metasearch - The Mother of All Search Engines that has this

Help for Mamma.com - The Mother Of All Search Engines

exellent help page and explains in more detail

What is a metasearch engine?

So until the opposite is proved, I think I agree with cw1865 and mjtaylor.

If you want to make your own meta searh engine, I wrote about it in my blog in August 02, 2005. Heading: Make your own (Meta) SE.

Not to pee on anyones parade as I personally always enjoy a good startup when it is done right. But you have started a new search engine that I am sure in your mind will compete with Google, make you rich and famous and you will soon be dating Haley Berry and be the new wunderkid of Wall Street.

That said, you chose Search-Blue.com as your URL ... don't you think you could have pre-invested a few of those future billions and bought SearchBlue.com ... which, mind you is a porn site. I know once you guys get big and I tell my 80 year old mom to go to the site and she forgets the "-" and can't understand why she is getting charged $19.99 a month, she is going to be pissed at me.

If you have a plan that you think is going to work, spend a few bucks for a decent domain name. Almost every site we build now we spend a couple grand on domain names and I truly believe that helps in the long run. The domain name will NOT make the site, but it certainly can ruin it.

Search is much more:

Marketing and especially branding is a type of drama.

Look here: Interbrand | Best Global Brands List | 2008

Microsoft: 2007 (2) 2008 (3)

Google: 2007 (20) 2008 (10)

Yahoo: 2007 (55) 2008 (65)

Interesting to follow that list.

Note: (Be careful with who you submit to, even if safe search is currently on)

"The requested URL was not found on this server.

Servage.net Clustered Webhosting running enhanced Apache Webserver"

http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/d...te=servage.net

Hint for a WPW tool:

An automatic tool / script that tests sites / links with the above tool and as a minimum issues a warning.
