Re: Ground Floor Search Engine
Okay...I would work on expanding your index before marketing your company. I typed in Arthritis, which is one of the largest search terms, and got not one single item of results.

Thats a good point.
However submitting to webmaster forums will expand our index. We are recieving over 200 new sites a day, so it wont be too long before users recieve relevent searches.
Keep in mind also its only been live for 6 days
Thankyou for your feedback - we value honest opinions

Re: Ground Floor Search Engine
I submitted our site, but you need LARGE amounts of marketing before it’s up and running. You also need to work on your results. Make sure the most frequent searches provide accurate results. I know you can manipulate the order and what sites are displayed, use that control to get the junk filtered out!
How are you going to stand out from all the other millions of search engines?

Re: Ground Floor Search Engine
200 pages a day x 365 days = 73000 pages = almost no index compared to anyone else
if you really want to be a viable search engine, you'll need to come up with a faster way to get pages in your index or you are honestly wasting your time

For the first 4 weeks we have optioned to only crawl submitted sites, our spider howerver will crawl 50,000+ pages of each site and follow all links on that specified site, so it will be a cascading effect. We believe this is an honest approach to the industry.
With regards to standing out from the millions of search engines... well learn from the best we say - Provide free branded webmaster tools as google and yahoo does.
Hope this helps

Re: Ground Floor Search Engine
Am I the only one that is skeptical of another traditional SE taking off?
Darryl, without the hype, what sets your SE apart from current industry engines (eg. Google, Y!, MSN, Ask)?

Re: Ground Floor Search Engine
Visser—I don’t know if skeptical is the right word or not. It’s a free submit, so there really isn’t much risk. However, if this was a paid service, no way would I pay for it! Unless they provide something special, which I haven’t seen yet, the search engine wont go far.
About 2 years ago I built Rafting.bz. It’s a whitewater rafting and outdoor adventure search engine. We indexed over 100,000 sites when we opened our doors, added PPC ability to the site. The client I was working for didn’t put enough marketing money into the site, so as far as I know its been pretty stagnant in terms of growth.
There is always room for new search engines, but unless they offer something different or better, then its going to be a long rough road! Just my 2-cents!

This is where I would image Google Co-op to really take off as apposed to funded ventures.

Re: Ground Floor Search Engine
I searched one of my keywords 'Right to Buy' and I was top
But under it were porn sites - probably a damned sight more interesting than my place.
Just be careful what you think of using.
You can owe me a million bucks for this -
'Where do good searches come from? Out of the Blue!
If you use it - remember where you got it

Re: Ground Floor Search Engine
I added mine, too ... searches in my niches are looking pretty relevant, and some of my sites were already there.
It would be nice if you added a search box at the bottom of the results pages, too.
ctabuk: remind me to ask you for marketng tips! Excellent slogan.
Thanks for the alternative. Best wishes, MJ

Re: Ground Floor Search Engine
Clean simple look -probably inspired by Google. I searched for "women Health" and it shows about 464 million results. Impressive. Most of the first page results were from government sites as you would expect from other search engines.
Until we play around with more search results, I admit, it is hard to see what kind of algo you would be using to trim the results. It sure looks interesting.

Re: Ground Floor Search Engine
It seems mostly from Yahoo. I had submitted a couple of sites and it is yet to crawl them.

So, it's something of a meta search engine, perhaps ...

Re: Ground Floor Search Engine
Yes this is a serious request, we have the financial backing, corporate sponsorships and my partner is known world wide. We have all the PR and Media outlets you could imagine. We are interviewing a few fairly seccussfull SE. However I would like to evaluate all our options and would consider buying, partnering or building. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
