Default The 1st record you ever bought

I've been at WPW a few months now, and thought it was about time I asked

"what is the first record you ever bought?"

or CD, if you're young. Must be the 1st you bought, rather than bought for you.

And question #2;

"What is the WORST record (or CD) you've bought?"

and why?

Come on, don't be shy, spill the beans. ;-D

First (ever) single - Sick Man Blues - The Goodies
Second - Turn it Down - The Sweet
First Album - Top of the Pops Complilation

And, I still have them!

Well, if that doesn't date me, nothing will.

Nice to know people still keep hold of their old records, and those ToTP compilations are wicked, esp. the covers!

The TOTP compilation, not that I was in any way influenced, had blue cover and Babe in a 'not too large' bathing suit.

The worst CD ever bought - Terence Trent D'arby, Symphony or Damned. He got it half right anyway.

My first album: PJ and Duncan: Pysche.

It contained such jems as "Let's Get Ready To Rumble".

Worst album I own? Chocolate Starfish & Hotdog Flavoured Water by Limp Bizkit (or however itz zpelt :P)

Why not add your fave album?

Mine is Rage Against The Machine by Rage Against The Machine (surprisingly :P).

First 45 rpms:
Elvis - Hound Dog
The Chipmunks - Chipmunk's Christmas Song

First Album:
Elvis - King Creole

Worst album:
Too many "Bottom 40" examples to list...

Best album:
Hard to narrow down - Dylan's Blonde on Blonde would have to be in there but it would definitely have company... Led Zep IV, Cream Disraeli Gears, Live's first album, Neil Young's After The Gold Rush, Fleetwood Mac Rumours... I have at least a couple of rooms full of CDs and LPs so there are a lot to choose from, and this doesn't even include the classical albums - Herbert von Karajan's 60s recordings of the Beethoven Symphonies, Sibelius' Swan of Tuolena, etc...

Yikes this shows I'm older than Pete...

1st single - Benny Hill - Ernie (he drove the fastest milkcart in the west)

(Funily enough my second one was also by Sweet but was Blockbuster)

1st album I bought (as opposed to had bought for me) was: OMG I just realised it was Rolf Harris (Someone shoot me now)

Worst Album ummm (Several I probably played once) make that most dissapointing album = ELO - Discovery.

First tape I bought for myself was New Kids on the Block.:-P
at about the same time, I dubbed/copied my sister's Meatloaf Bat out of Hell and my brother's Def Leperd(sp?) Hysteria.

I still am very eclectic!

I'd have say that my favorite compilations would be:
Pink Floyd's The Wall,
anything by the Eagles
to name a few!!

Default 1st - best - worst

First I can remember buying was a 45 of This Magic Moment yeah a natural for a preteen girl, in the throws of junior high infatuation...

Favorite album toss up between Fleetwood Mac Rumors and Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon and maybe Beatles Abby Road (Now they are staples of the long road trip - nice balance to NPR)

Worst um can't really think of the worst I bought, I did accidently kill my sisters entire bubble gum collection when we were young. Not sure what anyone was thinking when they bought anything by the Archies etc....

Default Time to spill the beans

1st 45rpm 'Walking on the moon' The police

1st LP, either 'Jeff Waynes War of the worlds' or 'A String Of Hits' by The Shadows.

Worst? now this is a hard one, I've got almost 2000 vinyl lp's, and about 90% are absolute cr*p! I've won 2 sh!t dj battles (any challengers?) so deciding my all time worst is hard, so here's a selection;

Uri Geller - cant remember the title, but it's an LP, 1972 and mainly his poetry, set to music.

Max Bygraves - Disco-longa-max

Jim Steinman - Bad for Good

The Fool - no title, but they should have stuck to graphic design.

As for my best album, even harder, 70's Zappa, Gong,
Saturday night fever OST, Casino Royale OST, the list is endless so I'll stop now.

All the best, pop lovers ;-D

Default music lives on . . .many medias later

Well, lemme think back . . . my first record was a 78 and I can't remember the title. My first 33-1/3 record album that I purchased with birthday money, I think, was Harry Belafonte's "Love is a Gentle Thing," released in 1959. As for favorite, it all depends on my mood and whether or not I'm driving. I bypassed 8-tracks -- went straight from 33-1/3s to cassettes and it was a long while before I moved into CDs. I've purchased and repurchased so many albums over the years; I do hope CD technology remains with us for at least another decade.

Knowing full well that I wrote

LOL!!!

I also had such 'classics' as the '1910 Fruitgum Co.' and their rousing rendition of 'Yummu, Yummy, Yummy, I've Got Love In My Tummy' :O) Isn't that hilarious HAHA LOL:) :] :p

However, it was a powerful song for me because I was 6 or 7 years old, and in love with a girl down the block!! HAHA LOL

This does bring to mind another category though: Songs that profoundly affected your life.

I.E. I liked Robert Plant's "Little By Little" (Still pretty much my all time favourite song) already, but didn't know what is was about.

Then I heard/read somewhere it was about his recovery from his divorce.
It became my anchor to sanity when I went nuts with agony at my own failed marriage.

But it has also been deeply meaningful to me during recovery from substance abuse, and some grave depressions.
I still start to cry when I think of or hear that song.

It represents the most profound feelings I have ever experienced - more so than even love - the end of blinding anguish and the returning of optimism.

The other one is 'You're to Sexy for your...' when I need to laugh at myself for being so smug :o)

First 45 single: Alright Now - Free (I think!) although I had my parents collection to play with too.. so Frankie Laine and Elvis were never too far away!

First LP: Siren - Roxy Music (with the lovely Jerry Hall draped over a rock in a seductive mermaid outfit!)

Favourite album: impossible one! there are way too many! Current fave is Absolution - Muse

Worst album: Moody Boyz - Product of the environment (dunno what happened there) a temporary lapse, I think I just liked the sound of the title! :o)

Default all time #1

I finally narrowed my #1 album down to 1,

Music to eat - by The Hampton Grease Band

from around 1970, the 2nd worst selling record in Columbia Records history. If you can find it, and you like zappa/beefheart type stuff, you wont be disapointed.

wow...this was thinking back! Back in my days of being a surfie beach bum.

45's
1st one bought: In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida - Iron Butterfly
Last one bought : Pretty sure it was a Status Quo one.
Worst one bought: Bay City Rollers (in my defence...it was for my sister!)

LP's
1st one bought: Led Zeppelin (self titled)
Last one bought : Beach Boys Greatest Hits
Worst one bought: Think it has to be Xanadu...I cringe now!

CD's
1st one bought: The Celts - Enya
Last one bought : Fallen - Evanescence
Worst one bought: an early Kylie Minogue one...where she sounded like a singing budgie (and it was for my daughter!)

All the worst ones went on to be used as drink coasters or melted into bowls :-)

And Julian....LOL.... you may be younger... but I remember Benny Hill & Rolf Harris being in my fathers collection ;-)

Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry - how could I forget them? Avalon - was that the name of the album or just the song? They also had an EP of live versions of Neil Young's Like a Hurricane and John Lennon's Jealous Guy that were amazing...

Bryan Ferry - the ultimate in "I'm too cool to even move quickly or sweat"...

Have to agree with you on that LOL!

The first album I ever purchased for myself was Alice Cooper's "Billion Dollar Babies"
How scary is that????
I've since moved on to become a rabid, blow-up pool toy wearing Parrot Head.

Fav all-time album= Jimmy Buffett's "Coconut Telegraph"

Fins up, Y'all :-)
