Default Using Newspaper ads to drive traffic

I'm in the process of building a site and I am thinking of using ads in the National Papers to get clients to go to my site. Any ideas folks?

You could use press releases to generate a story about your site. This should generate free editorial space which always works better than paid adverts, in my experience.

If you want any tips about press releases, how to distribute them, just let me know.

yes you could create a good ad and have it posted on newspaper. it is a good way to get traffic but I think its gonna be a little costly....but it maybe worth it.

Thanks guys - Thanks for you input guys - I'll try the Press Releases plus ads in the papers and I'll let you know how I progress - my ads will be only two liners in the personal column. My site will be ready this week and I will advertise hopefully following weekend.

Thanks guys. The only way to find out is to put my foot in the water. My ad will only be a two liner in the personal columns and wont break the bank. If it works it works and if it doesn't I wont cry. I have a few more irons in the fire so I'm feeling confident enough to take a gamble.

Try using free distribution press release sites. And some of the paid ones, also.

I reckon it fully depends on the sort of site your trying to market. Say, for example, a dating site or a ring tones site. Offline marketing works really, really well. Obvious point really!

Martin, do you recommend any free distribution sites?

I've just fast tracked the project and my first (and maybe my last) ad will appear in the Irish Times personal columns on Sat 19th. The site is complete for now. The ad a two liner ad cost me the bones of €100. You guys might be able to try something similar in your neck of the woods but I think this is just an Irish thing. You can view the site at irishobituaries.org. Let me know what you think.

I built a reasonable site. you can see it at irishobituaries.org. I put a two line ad in the Irish Times yesterday. good and bad news guys - The ad looked good in the paper. Only two people viewed the site as a result - so far.

Yes. It can be a bit slow to get releases up, but a UK-based outfit called pressbox (pressbox - free press release distribution and news - press store - copywriting services) is good.

Obviously, being free it can get some junk on it, but as a large number of "legit" PR firms use it, it must be getting them some results.

There are other sites such as:

Free Press Release Distribution - Press Releases and News - PR.com
PressReleasePoint | Submit Free Press Release Distribution

and this link goes to a list of paid and free sites
Paid and Free Press Release Site List | PressReleasePoint

In the UK Response Source :: www.responsesource.com is not a free site, but can cost as little as £45.00 for a press release. I use it as a recipient of releases and it is a very good service.
