It was a tiring day, but I am uproariously laughing away at such good solutions ...

I am going to map Q to my missing char, i did F4, but my digits just too short, Q is right by it, and I also do not do much with Q char, only for writing to HRH Th@ Qu@@n, who will probably not miss my spam.

Poor Q, is also a surplus and wanton char, I had not thought about much prior to today, now I am glad that having sat fallow for so long it has an opportunity to stand in for what i lost and do what it was built for.

It is actually a like a nightmare. A bit dramatic I know, but I am still having this problem, I bought a new key mechanism, and fitted it, but that didnt fix it, I guess it is the connection/circuitry(???). The laptop is under warranty, but Sony want it for about 3 weeks and wont guarantee they wont wipe my hard drive, which I can backup, but its just a big hassle reinstalling OS , progs, etc and 3 weeks......

So I am thinking....how hard can it be to replace a keyboard on a laptop, I am sure I could get one on ebay and using a pair of tweezers and a blow torch, fit the thing right?

If anyone knows how easy/difficult it is to put a whole new keyboard on a sony vaio laptop, then let me know if it is worth my giving that a go?

(by the way dont be fooled by my use of the letter e, I have remapped my keyboard, but my brain and fingers are having a hard time keeping up)

Thanks, warranty runs out on 24th of this month, it seems it has been programmed to self destruct at around that time, as the battery is also failing.

I have decided to send it to Sony whilst I can, as it sounds hard and keyboards are actually pretty expensive too.

My father had a problem with his former HP laptop computer in which the @ symbol didn't work.

Numerous calls to tech support, to no avail.

The shift keys worked fine. The 2 key worked. And all the other symbols above the other numbers worked, but for some reason, only the @ key would not work. So much for typing in email addresses.

After complaining to tech support that they couldn't help him with his laptop which was still under warranty, he finally got in touch with a supervisor. The solution? They had him send it back and they replaced it with a newer model that now had Windows Vista.

So now his troubles are figuring out how to work Vista.

My laptop is going to Sony tomorrow. Having backed up I am just n the middle of wiping all my hard drives and if they give me a new one that would be great...although I dont want Vista, as I have too many incompatible progs, I tried it before.. But I can always wipe that and put XP back again if necessary .....it would be nice to get a shiny new one...I am getting excited now.

I am so nervous right now...as next two weeks, I am relying I have backed up properly and have to get my old laptop working again to use...

I feel like I am about to jump off a cliff...waiting for wipe drive to download now...then there is no turning back...

Sony has my old one, and I am crossing my fingers that I get the same luck as Jawn Techs father. Although I am prepared to have the same one returned having undergone a bit of welding and held together with sellotape.
