Default The crazy Jacksons....

I cannot believe what's going on with the Jacksons...
First Michael gets on trial for child molestation.
Next thing I know, Search Engines gets flooded with the public outrage of what his sister did Janet Jackson in the superbowl. It just shows how low the moral of people is becoming with the influence of the media. Wonder what was she trying to prove there exposing her breast? It destroys respect towards women. A bad influence to young children and teens.

I don't care what anyone thinks. I think it is about time Janet stepped up and showed us what she is made of...

Silicone can be a beautiful thing... :o)

What is really funny, is that Lil' Kim presented at last years Grammy's with one breast hanging out with a pasty on it. It even got bounced by her co-presenter. Did she get chastised? Did she get banned from shows? No she is doing just fine.

So what IS the big deal with Janet? Who cares. And what is up with this class action suit started by some Tennessee woman? Was her child truly traumatized by the event. A mere second of exposure? This is stupid. Let it go. Your children have seen worse. You just don't know it. What about parents that change or shower with their children? Is that ok? Or should they be locked up for indecent exposure to their own children? When will this country get their thumbs out of their (other word for backside) and get real.

Let - It - Go...

OK, I'm done ranting...

A child was "traumatized" by a natural part of the female body? Give me a BREAK!

I'm a bit offended by that...

You edit quotes like the National Inquirer. If the human body is considered indecent by your standards, then you might as well lock yourself in a closet and wait of the end.

I'm not here to justify your standards are wrong, if that's what you think is right for you, go ahead, live it. All i'm saying is that a lot of children are influenced by it. That's your life, by all means, it's a free world, you pay as you go, and do what you think is right for you. Just live with the right way of conscience.

Default BUSH KNEW!

The way I look at it, Janet's SuperBoob stunt is no different from the sensationalist headline "BUSH KNEW" that was published on the front page of the New York Post a couple of years ago which suggested Bush knew about the 9/11 attack before it happened but did little to stop it.

I find it extremely hypocritical of television and newspaper journalists to say Janet's sensationalist stunt is shockingly irresponsible. Turns out Bush DIDN'T know, but the headline sure did attract a huge crowd and sold a lot of newspapers.

Sensationalism is practiced every day by the very same journalists who are now ranting on television about "irresponsible sensationalists" and "how on earth has it come to this?!"

The journalist's motto: "Find a flaw and exaggerate its significance."

It's unfortunate that Janet has become the lightning rod for this "flaw" in human nature - we love controversy. Controversy sells. And until it stops selling we will continue to see naked boobs and butts suddenly appear in the most unlikely places, stirring up trouble. And journalists will be there to fan the flames for every penny it's worth.

The good thing about the 'Superboob' stunt is how it helps our language evolve to new levels. The 'exposure' in question was blamed on

'a wardrobe malfunction'.

Default Oh how sad!

Someone once said that the US and the UK were two countries separated by a common language, but all this Jackson "outrage" only serves to suggest that the separation is caused by a huge cultural gap. In the UK this week a few column inches were spent on bad boy, ex-Sex Pistol, John Lydon who used the c**t word, once seen as the last unspeakable word on British TV, on a prime time big-rating TV show. Huge outrage: all of 88 people complained, and the news reports were of the effect that this was no big news story. In the States, there are howls of outrage when the US audience is shown what we see on British TV after the 9 pm watershed on a regular basis. And now I hear that ER's latest episode has been self-censored. Relax everybody, we all have bodies. From the gap, not of culture but of physical distance, I would suggest that a country that arguably has the biggest porn industry in the world, and some of the highest gun-crime figures that there are nore important things to worry about than a publicity-stunt-inspired breast, which wasn't too impressive anyway.

Default Out of Context?

From what I understand, the Act featured a Timberlake song saying, "I'm going to have you naked by the end of this song," or words to that effect. The Act indulged in the usual sexually provocative gyrations and costumes. Anyone who was that sensitive to what their children see should have stopped their viewing way before the end.

As an American long resident in Europe, this is just another example of the US culture which accepts violence and titillation (no pun intended), but abhors nudity.

Go figure!

How incredibly funny & sad at the same time. Lawsuits, TV programs editing their shows, being aried over & over again, Timberlake running like the whiny brat he is because it might tarnish his image, mothers concerned over their children, men (of all people!) calling it indecent??? Threads in here even discussing the morality & immorality of it???

Has this world gone mad ???

It seems as if everyone is running around justifying this & that, to please this person & that person. How ridiculous! Yet no one asked if it pleased those who didnt care it happened, which was probably the bulk of the population!

Aside from the fact that is was a publicity stunt, I am going along with:

The sad thing about this generation of life is that women are treated as some sex object for men's pleasure only and most of the time, they get the crap and the beating. Women are to be respected, and honored not to be treated as some object for men's pleasure. Although lets say that that was just a stunt. For innocent children seeing that, it sure gives a lot of impact in their lives. And that act alone proves, women are treated as some sex symbol where men literally take advantage of women and it shows a bad image for women. That's why teenagers of this generation having multiple partners and loosing their innocence at a young age. Rise of child pornography. Child molestation. Teens living a messed up life. Who is to blame for all these? MEDIA!

If these people are gonna do an act at least, let them show something that would help the growth of young people in a way that's decent. But the sad part is they show CRAP!

Has the world gone mad???? YES, TOTALLY MAD!

That's why there's also the rise of feminism and you see women being independent and not wanting anything to do with men anymore. Morality is really going down in this world. Eventhough most of you people are not bible believing individuals, history is repeating itself where Sodom and Gomorrah was just like the way it is now and at that time, the city got burned because of the way how people lived.

Knowledge is rising in this world, but morality is going down...

Oh, now there we go, blaming someone else for the down fall of society.

Please...

The answer is not media. Media did not tell kids to shot their classmates. Media did not tell teenagers to go have sex, get pregnant at 15, and live on welfare. Media did not teach kids to break into cars and steal radios.

There is clean media; as well as what you seem so determined to blame.

As a parent I choose what my child views on TV. They do not sit next to me when I watch a Martial Arts movie, or when I watch CSI on TV. But I do sit with them when they watch Kids Discovery and the Disney channel. It is my responsibility to raise my child. Media is not to blame if a large majority of society uses the "boob tube" (pardon the pun) as a cheap baby sitter. Media is not responsible for what channel you watch or how late you let your children stay up.

The child’s guardian is the one responsible. The child’s guardian is the one to blame. If my child went out and shot his friend because he saw me do it in a video game; (Which he doesn't see me play by the way) then I would blame myself for not restricting his access to that form of stimulation. It is not the game makers fault. These guys that went racing down city streets and shooting people because they saw it in the Vice City video game are a prime example; if the parents had monitored what their children played and watched then this incident would have never happened. It is not the game creators fault; it is the fault of the parents for not saying “No, you can’t play that.”

And sorry if I offend, but people that find blame with everyone and everything but their own decisions, needs to take a long hard look in the mirror.

I think this is an 'American thing', I like you, am completely baffled over the entire episode. So she got her breast out - my first thought was that it was a particularly unatractive example of a breast and if it wasn't propped up by the remainder of the costume would probably have been hanging down like a spaniels ear.
Other than that observation I am completely confused by the whole business and can't for the life of me think how this equates to any other other issues. She got her breast out, it wasn't a nice example - that's it.

Personally, if I was a spaniel, I would feel insulted by the comparison.

But I'm not, so I think it is a good one.

Your so wrong, at least IMO!

Feminism is a payback that women come up with because men never gave them a fair shake in life. And if you think that it achieved anything, you are sorely mistaken. Feminism actually made the journey harder beause of the resentment associated with it. The ones who weren't interested in payback, were the ones leading the way in gaining the respect they wanted. And being ashamed or covering our body isn't one of those things!! Men made our breasts taboo, we didn't. We wanted the right to chose if we bared them or not. It didn't make us sex objects if we chose to. It showered we empowered ourselves with the right to!

The same values you speak of are the ones that in many countries & states, cause us to be herded into toilets to breast feed our children because our breasts are considered 'private' and to be 'hidden'. Our mammary glands are no different to yours, except that ours look better most of the time.

If during entertainment a mans shirt got ripped off, you wouldn't blink, though I proably would! Maybe several times! Why? Because he probably looked good! So a man can strut his peacock feathers, but oooo, not a woman? I don't even see 'equal' rights there! Definately no 'female' rights! Which is what feminism was meant to be fighting for. Instead, feminism fought for the right for us not to be treated as sexual objects by not showing ourselves in public, like this was only for the mens pleasure.

I come from a fairly flexible society, yet, I still hear many women grumble, that on a hot day a man can walk around with a shirt off, yet if a woman did it she would get stared at & accosted. If you want to fight for a females rights, start by not making the identical parts of our bodies as men taboo! Don't teach your children they are. Dont show shock at them being shown in public. Stop herding mothers into toilets to breastfeed. Dont make breasts soley a sex object! If you want to preach female rights, preach that we have the same rights!

If the sight of a bare chested man can sell products, why not a woman? Dont talk rights if you aren't going to talk 'equal' rights.

We only make ourselves objects, if we decide to. Just as men. Don't take away our 'right' to choose!

< who wants the soapbox next? > :-)

Oh for *%@#^ sake. My God, like this is even worth mentioning as "memorable"? OK, people will talk about this for awhile, and yet, who cares? My wife looked at it like "what's the big deal? Mine look better than that." I can't believe people got so upset about this.

Payback?
I'm sorry, but feminism is/was a movement started by Gloria Steinem to educate people and to institute reform, not to bash men or pay them back.

Because men never gave them a fair shake?
Women are responsible for the governments that get elected, and I do not see wholesale indication, or even much of a hint, of women protesting or choosing progressive candidates in any elections I've ever been aware of.
In fact, there are many, many, conservative womens organizations that fight the reform that MEN and WOMEN agree with.

It was a WOMAN that sued over the showing of Janet's pathetic little breast, not a repressive man

I find all prejudice and stereotyping offensive.
I am equally adamantly against generalized grouping of women, religious groups, political groups, racial groups, or using any other form of lazy, contextual thinking that serves only to bias and distort truth.
What your blaming 'men' does is strip us of our individuality and makes me as guilty as any misogynistic prick that beats on his wife, and I strongly resent that.

In fact, I am one of the ones that have been trying to make light of this completely idiotic portrayal of our society and give it the weight and ridicule it deserves, not blow it up and get on the 'exposure' bandwagon.

And as for women exposing their breasts in public? The last rally I saw, in Edmonton, had the makings of a circus, with droves of men out there with video cameras and cheering the women on. It is a sexual display in our society, not just in mens eyes. Most men were all for it. How many women are really for this? As a percentage?
How about clothes in totall, then?

<gets down from soapbox - after several edits to tone down the temerature :o)>
