Default secure forum software

Our website forum, using DiscusWare (free version), has been serially attacked by someone or some 'bot' posting porn links. They do this twice weekly. All we can do at the moment, is to delete them twice a week.

What is the most secure forum software we can buy?

Our web site volunteers are not too expert. Software would have to be user friendly.

Any suggestions?

Hi Tarzan,

I've been looking into it recently as I want to set up a forum and have decided on phpBB, or at least to give it a try - don't know if that's any help?

I use phpBB as a platform for ForumNorway. You have the same problems with phpBB. In the end it is how it is programmed and how clever you are to modify and secure the code (.htaccess, php.ini etc.). It is also important to have a community where you can get help if you have problems. WPW uses phpBBB and I can not see that they have great problems with the platform. You also have the starfoxtj add on and a lot of mod(ification)s that could be installed.

My first experience: Only registered users shall be allowed to post. Install the latest version. It is updated relatively frequently.

Here is a thread that may be of value to you. Now I have additional problems.

Here is the thread about additional problems, phpBB and security that may be of interest too.
