There's no way I'm paying $189 or whatever it is to be a member of their forums!

Default Paid is only a section of their site.
The paid "supporters" forum is only a section of their site, not the entire site.

Then the cost will not cover your increased income by getting access to the paid part.

That's wierd... Yesturday it was the entire site for me... I just tested it again and it's back to normal...

No I don't think it will, besides most of the stuff gets discussed in this forum for free.
