Damn you wiggles and damn your hot potato!
For any and all parents in the forum that ever had barney "i love you" or any other kids tune stuck knee-deep in their brain, i want to say Im with you.
As if baby einstein and and MagIQ dvd's were not enough, the introduction of the insipid "wiggles" into my life has me standing at the supermarket singing "hot potato, hot potato.....potato,potato,potato..."
Is there no cure for this synthetic brain fart a veteren parent can suggest? I know its too late for her but can I still be saved?

Oh I hear you and I feel your pain. I have 2 and 5 year old girls (yes, I know I'm screwed).
I hate the Wiggles.
I hate Barney.
I hate Teletubbies, Blues Clues, Dora, Franklin, Little Bear, 64 Zoo Lane (that song makes me want to puke), Maisy, Miffy, Max & Ruby, Miss Spider...
I hate them all. Bland, humorless, lobotomized celluloid abominations says I.
Except for Spongebob. He's pretty funny.
I watch him when the girls aren't home sometimes. (Did I really just write that?)
Fortunately, when I upgraded the satellite package a few months back I started getting Boomerang. Boomerang plays all old cartoons. Stuff like the Pink Panther, Tom and Jerry, old (good) Warner Brothers stuff etc etc.
Now my girls watch the cartoons I watched. They still like a couple of the others (Dora mainly) but the vast majority of that cracker-dry, politically correct, inane drivel they used to watch is behind us now.
Except for Spongebob. He's pretty funny.
But to answer your question... No. Sadly, there is no cure for their wretched little themes and songs. They haunt me to this day -and I haven't seen a second of one in months. You just gotta smash 'em down in that little hole deep down inside of you with everything else you hate.
That's what I do anyway.
Except for Spongebob. He's pretty funny.

Mike and freehits - I agree. With 2 under 5's taking up most of my day, all of those that were mentioned get on my nerves and with the Wiggles, well talk about picking up inbreds! And its obvious that Greg (in the yellow) dyes his hair!
Maisy Mouse has gotta be worse than the Teletubbies by far. That is so mind numbing, I used to fall asleep watching it.
Still they're repeating Rainbow on in the evenings (UK show from the 70s). Very nostalgic ;)
Paint - the - whole - world - with - a - rainbowwww!! (doo doo der da der der der da da der der etc)

Spongebob is the man, hes cool. I like !Go Diego! o 'dora en espanol, thats not too bad.
But until you have the MagIQ DVD's and here the "belly button song", your life is not completely hijacked yet.
Except Sponge Bob of course, he hangs out with David Hasselhoff, who I hear hangs out with Faglork on weekends.
:)
PS: you can download Rainbow on Kazaa.

Hey now!
I'll have no more Sponge Bob bashing! In terms of kid friendly programming, he is without peer when compared to anything else in the genre developed in the past 20 years.

My 5 yr old (Madlynn) barely has time for TV at all anymore.
It interferes with her training...

Hey, tell your wife THANKS. Looks like your little girl can hold her own with greeneagle. :)
I confess that I own a few Ren & Stimpy DVDs. The original few were twisted and funny, then it got kind of creepy.

Actually she agreed with greeneagle about css spam detection, so I tossed her out. She now has her own startup and has taken most my clients. Another geekwoman on the prowl.

Spongebob is hee-larious.
I know this may sound dumb, but there is this new show on Nickelodeon these days called Avatar: The Last Airbender that is simply badass. It's an anime-esque cartoon with an interesting story and phenomenal characters. The animation is well done, but the range of characters and the way that it conveys their emotions is top-notch.
Though the 'toon is obviously for older children than 2-5 (I'd say for 8-13 year olds), it is certainly among the calibur of Spongebob.

I got Ren and Stimpy on video, but thats not a bad thing! The best one is Rens Toothache. Tho you are right they did go a bit strange afterwards (as did South Park).
Spongebob is Ok(-ish) but Angela Anaconda is just class.
Freehits the only remedies I can think of is to either get your daughter into other daytime TV shows (Jerry Springer is a good one especially if shes a repeater) or sing continuously "I know a song that will get on your nerves" over and over again until thats welded into your head, then Wiggles don't stand a chance.
HTH ;)

Re: Damn you wiggles and damn your hot potato!
I like Spongebob!! I remember when it first came on and I hated it. But, I started watching it with my nephew and niece and it really started to grow on me. I even have a Spongebob CD holder in my car...how cool is that?! I especially like the Spongbob DVD called Sea Stories. (I think that's what it's called)

What I like best about the first Ren & Stimpy cartoons are the voices - Jon K doing Ren is too funny and the Stimpy similarities to Larry of the Three Stooges is hard to miss. My favorites are (in order):
* Big House Blues (the BIG sleep)
* Nurse Stimpy
* Tooth Beaver
* Space Madness
I also loved when Ren went inside Stimpy to investigate his brain. He had to ride the "brown line" into the interior with an ear of corn - twisted stuff.
