Default What happened to voice activation?

Is anyone here old enough to have put off the idea of learning to type, with the view that voice activation/control, would prove it an unnecessary hassle?

Who would have thought twenty years ago, that it still isn't standard or throughout?

That said; theres probably a lot of people right here that have it for various reasons, but I wonder why that area hasn't become affordable enough, to make it a standard?

Look what a camera can do in the same space of time, to name one area.
Incredible advances.

Voice activation is incredibly complex and difficult. It's something I have read quite a bit about actually.

One of the primary problems basically boils down to an issue with dialects and accents.
Examples:
A 'You say tom-A-toe, I say tom-AH-toe' kind of thing.

I'm from Kentucky and I have a Kentucky accent which is a world apart from a Boston or New York accent and then you have Texas accents, Midwest (Minnesooooota) etc etc..

Basically language is far more complicated than people generally realize. I know what Sue (from Boston) is talking about when she is talking about "Pahhhking her Caaahh" but machines have a real problem with it.

Accents Mike,
That makes sense. They do seem to differ, without having to travel too far.

A romantic notion, I suppose.
