First the Cookie Monster, now Curious George....
Well friends and neighbors, I have for you today another sad example of the general state of things.
Previously, I had thought things couldn't get much more rediculous that last Spring's news about the Cookie Monster. I should have known somebody, sooner or later, would raise the bar.
Now they are after Curious George. Yes, you see, I was one of the (apparently blind and insensitive) types who thought of Curious George simply as stories about a mischievous monkey's misadventures told to amuse children.
Silly me.
You see, now it's finally come out that 'ol George is actually symbolic of Imperialism, bad parenting and animal abuse. That's right. Imperialism, bad parenting and animal abuse. Read all about it here
Gee.
Who knew?
I'm so glad I was a kid before everything became so symbolic and politically correct.
What garbage.

Oh for goodness sake. How sad are some people?? >:-(
Kids don't notice or care. Its parents trying to clean up TV so they can use it as a babysitter.
When I was a kid at school I didn't even twig at the names of the characters in Captain Pugwash and had a cuddly golly which was banned from Noddy.

Inane
It's unbelievable and absolutely ridiculous. 3-year-olds aren't into social responisbility. This reviewer makes it sounds like it was written by Rudyard Kipling. Sorry... Margaret Rey, the co-author and wife of H.A. Rey, was a German Jew who left Germany before the war. For some reason she doesn't seem like an imperialist sympathizer.

They don't need to be on something -- they're already in LaLa Land (read: California!)

Curious George
I will read "Curious George" to my grandchildren & if I'm fortunate to still be alive, my gret-grandchildren. People like Roth need to grow up out of la-la land.

fantastic. was just reading about the cookie monster
"A cookie is a sometimes food, kids".
And the next line goes onto say
"A Sesame Street representative said the popular character would be "broadening his eating habits" in future."
He's not real!! Who gives a sh*t what he eats?? And as for the other one, how can a little cartoon monkey be a symbol of the worlds horrors. It's just stupid, pure and simple...

Let me assure that not all Californians are in LaLa land. However, you wouldn't know it with the ones like Cindy Sheehan and much of the Bay Area (Google lives there) with the coverage they get. We already threw out their leader (Gov. Davis recalled). It takes a while to clean house.

Cartoons, puppets and fictitious characters sure are getting targeted these days.
Just to think I bought my son a Curious George book for Christmas.
Oops, I said the 'C' word.

I'm sure glad parenting and teaching your kids the difference between right and wrong is up to television and movies shows. Wow. I thought I was responsable.

nothing like parents telling every one else how to raise their kids. when i have kids, they will not listen to "baby einstin", they will listen to Dr Dre's The Chronic and Black Sabbath. they won't watch Seseame Street, but Friday the 13th. they won't read curious george but will read Million Little Pieces. I garauntee you when my kids and their kids go to college, mine will be more socially adjusted and prepared for the real world.

Damn good plan KeithO. Mine are also going to be taught how to retreive beer cans from the fridge (and bring them to me) as soon as they can walk :)

I was watching an old WB cartoon, like the classic old bugs.
From what I understand a large number of the old ones that are offensive are now know as "banned cartoons".
Meanwhile the episode I was wacthing was the bullfighting jokes and the mexican/latin american stereotype...senor senor... which is a culture I married into happily.
It seemed these jokes are still acceptable, I guess offensive material all depends on who spends more time complaining about it.
Im sorry to say 95% of controversy is brought to the attention of america by those trying to stop it. Without crying like the fat kid at recess nobody whould really dwell on these fictional mind-warping influences.
Like eminem said, 'thank you to all the protesting parents for making me rich.'

Cookie monster will be eating a balanced diet, and Bugs bunny will no longer show "favoritism" toward an all vegetarian diet.
They can both sit down together and enjoy a broccoli and tofu pizza from California Pizza kitchen.

the only reason you have kids is to pass off responsibilities. teach them to get beer, then once they get older, teach them to cut the yard. then later on, teach them to drive to the supermarket. once they pass that stage, you kick them out and they fend for themselves.

Why is this whole thing such a big deal? He's a CARTOON monkey! He can't influence anyone! I read the books as a kid and I turned out just fine--these people need to get a new life!

Is it the George name or the monkey itself?
Why in the world would they critic such cartoons? There are worse things that Curious George do? Children would just love seeing colorful things in cartoons and sometimes even adults enjoy it.
