Default Needing Acronyms

The technological world we live in is filled with acronyms. Every day we add new ones. I am attempting to collect as many of the IT acronyms as I can - with the words they represent. Doesn't matter whether it's programming, web design, hardware, software, etc.

HELLLLPPPPPPPPPP!!! Again. Please?

Wen - do you already have a list started so as not to get overwhelmed with ones you already have, so repeats don't get submitted? Or are you just leaving open-ended and see what flows in?

Like, starting with "A" maybe:

API
Abbreviation of application program interface, a set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software applications. A good API makes it easier to develop a program by providing all the building blocks. A programmer puts the blocks together.

Here's what I have so far:

ROM
RAM
SIMM
DIMM
MSSP
CPE
VoIP
XML
HTML
dHTML
CGI
IM
OS
IT
AV
BIOS
SATAN
DLL
GIF
JPG
GUI
GPML

And every one I write down reminds me of 3-4 more so the list is growing. I need about 200 or more total. Long ways to go yet.

Clicken your list is great, I've learned a few things reading through it. Thanks. :)

Glad to see you around :)

I like that one, I'm going to have to start using it with many of the BDU's I work with ;)

A few links you may find fun or useful:

http://www.hightechbuzzwords.com/ - searches the term/acronym you input and returns definitions

http://www.acronyms.ch/ is a bit to get used to at first, but the left column nav has an acronym database at the bottom

Love the information!

Great sites wrmineo, definately fun to play with... ummm I mean use. For work. To look up acronyms. Serious acronyms. Ya, that's what I'm doing. :o)
(It's Friday, I can goof off, a bit) Just thought of another acronym: T.G.I.F!

Okay, back to work.

hhhhhmmmm... I must admit I was challenged by that one. Can't stop thinking about acronyms now. Thanks wenwilder for the list of some that you know.
