Default A job in online marketing.....

Ciao all,

Really need some advice from all the web pro's who visit these forums daily.

Nothing technical this time, it's about recruitment.

I'm close to finishing a BSc in Management and IT at York University (UK) and I'm consequently looking for employment.

I got into the internet and its marketing wonders after a 13 month industrial placement (internship) at Intel Corporation in 2003-04.

I then set up with a group of five others the website that is linked to my signature below.

I've then done a few collaborations with web based businesses in the area of SEO and online branding. And I have learned A LOT by reading these forums everyday.

NOW, my question is...how do you get into online marketing??

A few weeks ago I got an interview with one of the top UK digital agencies for a SEO Analyst role, but got rejected coz I was apparently too "chatty and talkative" for such a technical role...

I consequently applied for loads of graduate account manager/online media buyer jobs and have simply been ignored...not even an interview yet...

So I'm wondering, what do you need to get into this field? Do you guys have any suggestions on what skills I should develop further etc.?

I'm absolutely enthusiastic about anything online marketing related, from SEO to affiliate marketing management to account management. How can I build a successfull career in any of these fields??

Any help is MUCH appreciated, and of course, if there are any UK folks here interested, my CV is always available ;-)

Thanks for your help!

lacantina

Hey lacantina,
I would recommend that you build a portfolio of sites to show off your talent, maybe start creating a few communities which if propular can prove to your future employer that you have marketed correctly as you have gained members.

If you in London i would recommend you go see Lycos, I did my work experience there and they are really friendly, dont bother sending them a CV just go up there directly they love enthusiastic people as all New Media companies.

Maybe opt for an original site to promote your skills and background...

Anyway I wish you all the best,

Sam
