(requires flash)

Why are those violent comics so popular?

Wondering,

Alex,

I hope you don't mind me breaking that link. They are already a PR6, and I don't want to do them any favors here. Links in the body text count more than Forum Sigs. Anyone that wants to view the Site content can simply copy the link and take out the "break-space"

I watched a couple of the flicks myself.

I agree that concerned parents need to be aware of this kind of sick, dichotic garbage that is readily available to their kids.

In fact this is is a good argument for the tools that are available for parents and webmasters at the ICRA, (Internet Content Rating Association) and SafeSurf.

I haven't seen this topic come up, for a long time if ever here. There were several top Sites I recently researched that had the ICRA metatag label. I have just recently added it to mine and several clients.

This would be a great place to discuss rating our sites with the labeling system, webmaster advantages, preferred children's browsers etc.

Another interesting direction this thread could take is a discussion on the almost "viral" marketing effect of off color multimedia releases by design companies".

Good Post.

Ken

Well that was an education, the graphics are good, I'll give them that, but I'm glad my Son is in his 30's, maybe if we get some grandkids I'll have to be wary. Now surely Capitol One, need their brains seeing too for allowing an agency to place a banner ad overthere?
We live in a pretty sick society, I think New Zealand is beckoning me. Great idea for Ken to allow us the opportunity to find out for ourselves. I have to admit that for a minute I thought, typical, I sing faglork's praises and his first post in the breakroom had been pulled. That's Moderating at it's best.
So what do the parents of young kids here at WPW think of it?

I tell you, I was shocked the first time I saw it. Late at night, I zapped through some cartoon channels and happened to watch a real gory episode, with blood spouting as if the young Stephen King himself had written the storyboard ... ok, it was night, but this was the regular cartoon channel which the kids attend in the afternoon ... brrrrr.

On the other hand, if you watch "The Simpsons", those "Itchy and Scratchy" episodes are not far from that. Admitted, the Simpsons are not for kids, too, but they get shown at "children's prime time".

Back to the real life. Has anybody experience with ICRA / SafeSurf? Are there any stats about usage?

Alex

I'll tell you what got to me...
Is the "main stream" companies who are supporting this...the Cadillac Ad the ran before the "cartoon" helped me narrow down my selection of my next car...one less to consider.

If you consider the "rubber necking" done at the scene of accidents on the highway. The fact that gory, shoot'em up movies rank the highest in sales and Stephen Kings long running book line - is it any surprise cartoons follow the same pattern?

I just watched the movie "Saw" the other night. Interesting movie. If you haven't seen it - I don't recommend it if you have a weak stomach. There is a scene where the main character "saws" off his foot. Just the sort of thing I would like to watch daily (pure sarcasm there!)

The internet grows with porn sites faster than legit sites - blood and gore cartoons and images are easily found - blogs of the marcarbe receive more hits. Is it really surprising that it gets worse every year?

My oldest son (14) researchs subjects on the net to help with homework projects. Some of the sites he runs across are..... at best unacceptable, in my book. Which is why he is watched closely.

If movies are rated for content, why not websites? I would rather visit a site I know is content safe than see graphics, words, etc. I don't care to see.

Society may be slipping on what it finds acceptable but, it doesn't mean I have to agree. Give me online site ratings (because I refuse to buy a software program to what I can do myself).
