Poll: Should GAT posts be counted in member post count?
Poll's over. Change implemented. Posts to the GAT will no longer increase post counts.

Opinion
I think most people here use the post count as an indication of how good advice from a member might be, especially new members who haven't had time to "size up" other members.
If this a fair indication (and I'm not saying it is) then GAT posts shouldn't count.
A better indication might be something similar to the "Reputation" thing like they use at SEW. If there were something like that here, I'd say let the GAT posts count.
I don't really have a strong opinion about it either way, but I guess if we are going to have post counts on this professional forum, we should only count the professional posts.

Professional posting should count for something

I agree, there are several forums I visit, that separate the "General" or "chat" areas away from the rest of the forum, and posts to these areas don't get included in the member's post count.

Yeah -- I agree with the above-mentioned posts. There is a silliness and steam-letting aspect to GAT that doesn't reflect the overall nature of the rest of WPW.

Seriously to think that I could be displayed on the index and highlighted and I just have to post a lot of times... I could take one of my mega post and turn it into several smaller post one after the other just to stay on the index. Sure anyone could tell that most of my posting was less than professional but at least I'm located in a prominent place.
I feel if WPW is going to honor their valued posters with 'Index Exposure' then it wouldn't be just a free for all. It would be a position earned in reference to the theme of WPW. A break is a break even from counting post.
Call it the break room if it is a true break and leave it as GAT if it reflects WPW's theme and the post still counts. That's just my thought, I know I can't 'tell' you what to do and I wouldn't try, but my perspective is offered for consideration.
Thr Break Room sounds soooo cool,... it has a more relaxed sound to it than the alternative. I just had to say that once more.

I admit break room is a cool name. (I may steal it if it's not being used...) I see both sides though. 'Off topic' rooms have various titles in forums. They tend to reflect the climate of its community. Probably 'break room' originally was about people taking a break from all the professional research and discussion this site is about. But if a room develops a community of its own like a Yahoo chat that confines themselves to that room, with nothing to do with SEO, IT, Programming, design, etc... then technically it's become something other than a break room, it's just an 'any topic' room. I know if when i go to work, if I was in the break room the whole time I was there, it certainly wouldn't be called a 'break'...
Regardless of what it's called, whether its break room, Gat, sandbox, disneyland -- it means "off topic" from the theme of the forum. We can still blab and enjoy it the same, just be glad we don't have to wear uniforms. ;)
Anyway, the question is, should posts here count. My post count may drop by 160+, but I guess I'd feel better knowing it reflected my professional activity to our guests.

If I change the forum to not count GAT posts, it won't effect past posts (I don't think - 90% sure). It will only count from that time forward. In other words nobody's current post count will be diminished. If I discover that it is indeed going to subtract from existing counts I will let you know.

disqualify
Just disqualify it now
I am already avoiding posting in the general topic area I have no desire to be stigmatized.
I do allot of quality posts throughout the site sometimes my general topic posts are moved by mods into other topic areas.
I just want to have senseless fun in the general topic area interact with other people in my industry in different ways please remove their value to the crowning system.

For my 3000th post, I'll say this: Fooey.
I wonder how many people come to the break room to laugh, and they see the ads just as much as any page or category.
At least change it to the Break Room again then.

gbg I agree. I personally enjoy all of your posts everywhere in the forum. Plus, you are hysterically funny in your break room...er, any topic posts.
I enjoy everyone's contributions here and throughout the forum. I hope no took my observation the wrong way. I was just offering a one-perspective, speculation as to how things take shape, which is all good and fine. Whether i'm on target or missed it completely, doesn't change that this is a great place and a huge amount of fun (and funniness) to enjoy day in and day out. Great community with common interests and experiences to share.
