Default Complete Novice to Affiliates

I currently run an online retail site, but I am looking for other ways to generate a little cash on the side. As a result, I am looking at affiliate marketing to generate a small income.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the following:

1) The best place to find a good program without a ton of competition
2) Strategies to bring in prospective customers
3) How to figure out Google and Overture.

Sorry for the basic question, but I have read so much material and all of it seems to conflict....

mizambar,

The affiliate programs that make the most are usually pretty competitive. Try looking for programs that fit your site at www.cj.com or refer-it.com

Your questions about driving traffic and the search engines may get more answers in the web promotion or search engine forums. Those forums here have lots of gurus who have good advice to share.

ShareASale.com is a good network. Two sites that administer that growing nicely and offer good revenue potential are listed below:

http://www.kimmyshop.com/affiliatesignup.aspx
