Default What do folks look for in an affiliate?

My site jimclemmer.com has 6 books from author Jim Clemmer. They've sold well over 400,000 copies and we want to set up an affiliate program to open up another channel.

What are the key ingredients that affiliates are looking for before signing up?

What should be an appropriate payout?

E-books or real books?

How do I get affiliates to join the program?

Any other advice is appreciated. I'll be using the affiliate set-up through 1shoppingcart.com

Thanks,
Aidan

I'm sure people will chime in and re state my below list, but here I go.

Here are the things that I ask myself as an affiliate.

**** Does this website come off as trustful?
1). Will my website's clients, be interested in this product?
2). What will my commissions be?
3). What is the minimum commission required for payment?
4). What is the payment schedule?
5). What payment methods are offered, do they offer paypal?

As for ebooks/real books, I would let the end customer choose what product they want to purchase.

Hi Aidan. I am an affiliate marketer and recieve many merchant offers through several well known affiliate marketing networks.

These include Digital River (Regnow.com), Commision Junction.com, Clixgalore.com,Linkshare.com,etc.

You could submit yourself as a merchant and they will offer the books, as a product line to their affiliate marketers.

It may be the way to go if supply large quantity.

What I look for in an affiliate.

First - It must be something that my users want.
second - the site I send them too must demonstrate a high level of skill in converting that visitor to a sale.

Biggest put off - referring my users to a web page that is 50% dedicated to pointing users to another product.
I want nothing on the page I refer my users to except a dedicated page to the specific product I promote. . (not a link to the product I promote)

If I place a link to a particular book for instance. _ you will lose me before I sign up if a hundred other books are promoted on the same page. I will not tolerate a site that merely use incoming traffic from my site for any other purpose than I send them for. (unless they pay me per click)

Traffic is valuable . too many affiliate programs want no more than lots of traffic with no regard to the efforts of affiliates. A waste of web space.

Thanks Tubby. I hadn't even thought about creating individual landing pages for each of the books.

I'll be implementing a lot of what everyone has suggested in the next quarter.

What would be an appropriate commission as a percent? Our books sell for $13.95 on our site.

Aidan
