If you are serious about building an online business, the first thing, you will have to increase traffic to your site. Most of these techniques are very simple to implement.

the social sites (digg, technorati, ect) usually pop up on search engines often depending on how valid your topic and posted link/article is. they help out a lot but you can't abuse the system. get yourself a good landing page for your "products" or whatever you are offering and start putting that link out. tahts my little 2 cent.

The best method of viral is to make an entertaining or informative video and post it on youtube. the link is built into the video.
How to's are one of the best ways to do this.

I would agree that article marketing is probably one of the MOST effective methods to increase traffic to your site. It also boosts search engine rankings over time.

I like to write 3 or 4 articles per week, and submit them to 6 or 8 article sites. This works extremely well for me. If I had to choose only one marketing method, I think article marketing would win my vote!

I submit my site link to 140 - 150 social bookmarking sites and resulta are very well. Nearly 600 unique visitors in 7 days.
Especially, Digg, Stumple Upon and Furl. net are very good fo getting unqie and targeted traffic.

videos travel far too. make an interesting video put it on youtube and there ya go. make sure you put in some backlinks and/or link on the video. people love media these days online.

I have been submitting articles to directories since 1995. A lot of backlinks but getting little traffic because all the articles are buried deep.

I have published a lot of free ebooks and have been getting good traffic from them since many are being distributed via directories of free ebooks.

but of course traffic is one thing, but traffic will not make your site successful. To do that you need content that is well written - remembering that people read differently on the web.

Well written content then leads to increased conversions.

So before chasing one's tale over traffic, also spare some time as to what that traffic does once on your site.

You are better off with lower traffic and increased conversions than spending time and effort on increasing traffic to a site that still converts poorly

Yeah, agree with you, viral marketing can work wonders for any business, web site or product. It can be a great source of sales leads, one-way links and targeted traffic. Placing a simple tell a friend widget on web site can make it easy for visitors to tell others about the site.

true, but lately, there are other search engines that could bring in nice traffic as well... one of the good SE that brings me more traffic than Yahoo and MSN is YouTube. Its a nice place to get traffic, just have some videos of tutorials, or something and submit it to youtube.

Notice the technique of posting on forums is fully at work in this thread. All those people who just posted "good info" or something like that with no real input are following the "post at as many forums as you can" technique. They don't read anything that is in the forum, they just put something like "thanks for the info" or "I agree with you" just to get that link in there.

Now think about that. How many of you actually CLICKED on their links?

Seriously, I'm very active on some Italian forums with thousands of users and even more non registered guest visitors but the site I have in my signature gets visited by like one or two every day and generally they click from a message containing useful information.

great for you then.... lately I have been noticing a lot of newbies or something that posts non quality posts in forums, I think by doing this, they are limiting the chances of getting good visitors from forums, I don't really see forums anymore as an effective source of backlinks but a good source of traffic, and we can acquire a pretty neat amount of traffic by posting interesting and helpful posts.

I watched a really good video on this subject. The creator of the vid said that Hub Pages, Youtube, Squeedo, Wordpress, directories, Blogger, and many others are great tools for creating an entire network around your market niche. You just start creating pages using all the websites available before long you Will start showing up in the top ten of Google. I actuality have six listings on the first page of Google from Six different sources but all relating to my market niche.

Bookmarking sites have high PR's therefore submitting your site to them is really important.
