Hello,
I am just a starter and excuse me for my English, I'm from Belgium and speak Dutch. This is my question: 1: I'm developing a personal webpage (just for fun) and have no company or so. Can I use affiliate programs on my website as an individual? Can I have problems with taxes? What if I earn a commission in the USA and receive a check or get paid by Paypal? 2: Can you be responsible using an affiliate program? For example: what if a customer buys something and he has problems with the company offering the affiliate program? The customer has found that website on my site... Thanks! F. |

Hi quattrosnow,
1) Yes anyone can be an affiliate, you don't need a company. Although some companies screen affiliates by country or by the quality of the site or subject of the site - so not saying any program you apply for will approve you. Not a tax expert but the only taxes would be if there are income taxes in your country. Tax laws apply to the country you reside in, not the country that pays you, as far as I know. 2) If you promote something illegal like drugs there is a slight chance you could get in trouble. But if you are promoting regular products like clothes, sports equipment and computers, for example - no. People realize that once they click a link from your site they are on the merchant's site and that is who they are buying from. If they had a horrible experience they may come back to complain and say - why do you promote this company - but don't know of a way you could be held responsible.
