Default Has anyone tried "Link Share Network"

I joined link share a couple of months ago. they network affiliates and allow you to join there program for free. It gives you access to multiple companys who are looking for affiliates and your commision checks all come from linkshare. Figured i would let you all know about it.

hi-lo,

Thank you and welcome to the forum. Yes LinkShare is one of the top 3 affiliate networks that are free to join along with CJ and BeFree.

I'm sorry but I have to say that LS is bottom f the barrel. CJ, BF, and PF all performs classes above LS for me

Hello,

First, I would like to thank everyone. This Forum is a great learning experience for me.

I also recently joined LinkShare, I cannot comment on its performance with great certainty, however I found the quality and variety of its links are far superior than BF’s.

Which programs are CJ and PF? Moreover, why don’t you like LS?

Sorry I'm so used to shorthand LOL

CJ is Commission Junction and PF is Performics

To me Linkshare is the worst converting of all the networks besides Shareasale.

Even supposedly good programs like Domestications have sucked lately.

Thanks for the information.

I understand that conversion rates can fluctuate within a program. However, are you saying that conversion rates are fluctuating between different programs drastically enough to differentiate one program from another? And that this trend is seeing an general reduction in conversion rates?

CA, it's all a matter of perspective -- for me, LS is second only to CJ as to the bottom line ($$$ they send me each month). If LS had a consolidated check, I'd use them even more.

Different programs work for different affiliates. From my perspective, Performics is mediocre and no matter how hard I try, I can't BeFree merchants to convert in areas where I have LS merchants converting like mad.

Is it the fault of the networks? For the most part, I don't think so. ;)

Cedric makes a very good point. Different networks do better depending on the affiliate and what you are pushing. My best advice would be to try them all and when one starts doing well for you promote it more:)

Default CJ vs Linkshare

I use both LinkShare and Commission Junction. I don't make a whole lot of money, so I definitely like that CJ combines all accounts toward my minimum payoff.

LS would certainly be the best if they offered consolidated payments.

Is 2004 the year that it will happen, don't know, it's not as easy to migrate all the present merchants to such a system as everyone would like to believe, but it would be good to see

Cheers

Chris

Default LS and CJ programs

Hi,
I've begun using LS an CJ since September 2003 and have yet to see tangible results. How long should one expect to wait before seeing any movement.

asimegusta,

If you are asking how long to start seeing sales, it depends... on the merchants you pick and how well they convert, on your traffic and how well trageted it is, on your pre-selling skills and site design and many other factors.

Affiliate marketing is really not a get righ quick business. Many affiliate just put up some banners and hope to make money. It takes alot more work than that. Most of my top affiliates are using datafeeds and putting up thousands of product links per merchant.

Are you just adding banners? How targeted is your site and traffic to the products you are promoting?

Default targeting

Thanks alot for your comments and questions.
I have banners and text links to sites which I feel may interest my visitors. My site sells embroidered home linens, and within this niche, is in a good position on Google and is getting good targeted traffic, that is only people interested in home linens. Traffic has been steadily increasing since inception in Sept. 2003 with a top of 1500 visitors in the USA version and again as much in the Spanish and very recent French versions combined in December.

I'm not sure what you mean by:
"Most of my top affiliates are using datafeeds and putting up thousands of product links per merchant."

I'm using dynamic links whenever possible, unless the merchant has server problems and erratic service, in which case I use a text link, or in a couple notable worse case scenarios where the image never shows or actually prevents my page form loading, I save the image for use to my server and create the proper link.

Honestly, I'm not looking to get rich through these programs at all, as long as they don't create havoc when loading my website, it is more of a trial to see what positive impression of product familiarity may rub off. Very low expectations.

Sounds to me like you are using banner ads and text links instead of focusing on product links. Product Links is where the serious money for affiliate marketing is

Default Linkshare

This has mixed success. One of the best programs they offer, though probably only good during Christmas season, is Overstock.com...

All in all, this is the worst when compared to commission junction. They take forever to pay out and do not offer direct deposit.

This can certainly be true, but not always. I average about 20 LS checks each and every month.

Would I prefer it be one check? Absolutely.

Would I prefer they had direct deposit? Absolutely.

Do I deposit the checks nonetheless? Absolutely. ;)

I launched my affiliate site October 1st, 2001 as a directory type site with some banner ads and merchants segregated by category pages. I made $18 my first month with an average 40 unique visitors (UVs) a day. That slowly increased until January 2002, when I made $120 on an average 160 UVs a day.

February 1st, 2002, I relaunched the site using datafeeds (Just Overstock's at first because it was free). That month I tripled my conversion rate and made $387. Over the next few months I added more feeds and now combine inventories from 6 merchants into one browsable and searchable site.

1 October 2002 I launched a micro site for just bedding, using the same DB that feeds my main site. Built and launched it in 3 days. It now gets average 180 UVs a day. My main site gets average 520 a day. In December 2002 I made $227 from the microsite and a total $1233 total from both sites.

I'm 15 months into my 36 month plan to be working for myself. I honestly expect (barring a reorganization of the way Affiliate programs work or Google banning all affiliate sites) that I should be able to clear $10K a month as I continue to hone my existing sites and build new ones.

My top performers in order are LS, CJ, BF, then Performics.

CJ charges $200 to set up your datafeeds, but they will let you pay out of your earnings so you don't have to send them money.

BF did mine for free

LS charges $250, but they want a check up front. Also, you HAVE to have a static IP to access the LS feed becasue they filter access to their FTP server by IP.

Performics charges $2500!!!! Needless to say, I'm not signed up with them!

There are many merchants that offer free inhouse feeds: Overstock, Rockler (tools), Art.com, Mondera (jewelry) just to name few. Full list here:

http://abw.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&...1&m=7346028083

Datafeeds are definitely the way to go. Get a book on ASP (the easiest to learn in my opinion). Start with a free feed to learn. You can get Access for about $80 or you might even already have it if you have MS Office. Build a good site using proven SEO techniques (no cheating!), submit to Google and other search engines (only submit once!), and the money will start to come in.

Bear in mind that you have to do something other than just regurgitate the feed. For example, if I take the Overstock feed and build a site that mimics Overstock, I'm not offering any incentive for users to come back; they'll just go to Overstock. So try to offer either:

A service: "Simplfy your shopping! At my site you can shop 6 stores and compare prices, all from one place!"

Content tie in: "Learn all about Radio Controlled Cars, read reviews of RC cars, and oh, by the way, here are some for sale at ..."

If you offer a service, keep your inventory fresh. I built automated jobs that download and update my batabase automatically. Although I spent a lot of up front effort (20+ hours a week learning and building in addition to my full time job), my average time spent working on my sites now is about 1-2 hours a week.

If you go with content, you need to CONSTANTLY add new content. Review a new RC car every week, or RC engine, or remote control, etc. People won't come back if you don't have anything new to read.

As an added benny, when I applied for a web and database developer position (I was a webmaster at the time working ony in HTML), I showed them my site, told them how I had built it and some of the things I was doing behind the scenes, and it got me a job making 19K more than the webmaster job. :)

It CAN be done. Read the boards, look at other affiliate sites, and, most important HAVE A PLAN.

Default Late Payout and affliates

We are a online group booking engine website. Are payouts are good, but because a big wedding or meeting can take as long to plan as buying a house, we are concerned that our payout might take to long and affliates might drop us.

We can confirm sales in real-time because of our online group booking technology, but the payout might take as long as 6 months to a year, because of our unique business model.

Does anyone see this as being a problem with an affliate network like CJ or LS.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Thanks for the Performics heads-up.

Last time I asked was probably 6 months ago at least.

I will revist them and inquire about their feed.

Performics makes me nervous though becaseu of their partners. They are partnered with many companies that have a reputation for scumwear. Wisj I could remeber the page that lists their partners....
