Sorry, I thought your other question was specific to Smartzones.
Well it's not just CJ that gets blocked by ad blockers, it's most of the major affiliate and ad serving networks. I assume it's Norton Internet Security thats blocking the banners??? Well CJ has changed some things in their code to try to help the issue. HOWEVER one of the ways Norton blocks is by the size of banners. If you are using standard size banners, say 468X60 and you can see those numbers in the html of your page, then Norton can block them. The banners here are a bigger size and may not be served by a well know ad server that's on Nortons block list. Cookies are of course needed to pass info about your sales so you get commssion. There are different kinds of cookies and different ways of blocking them. Maybe your cookie blocker considers CJ cookies spyware because it passes info to a 3rd party. (It's not spyware but that's another story.) But the cookies on this site maybe are 1st party cookies therefore are not blocked. It's complicated. This in-depth article with links and examples will tell you a lot more. http://www.5staraffiliateprograms.co...s-revenue.html

Hi Catalyst
Yes, originally it was specific to SmartZones, or so I thought at the time. I used to try CJ ads, and they worked fine. But today I thought, what the heck I'll try something -- one of the 'regular' ads (not SmartZone), and I got the same result as the SmartZone ads. So either they changed something on their end, or it's my filter. WOW Catalyst, thanks for tip on the article! What an eye-opener. Actually, the filter I am using does the same thing. It's Ad-Subtract, came free with my modem. It's a great blocker and you do have the option of turning things on and off. When you install it, it asks what type of things you want to block, but at the time I was thinking the filter wouldn't block affiliate ads, but rather pop-up ads or adware. Not something I gave much thought of at the time, and I should know better! For some reason, the text aff ads still appear, and the links are live. My concern is, if someone clicks through and converts, will I still get commission... probably not if cookies are blocked. |
